...Chris, can you use a mf towel with OID or ONR instead of water? Either way it's very cool but just curious. That's probably asking the impossible. Lol.
That is excellent! I thought you had said this before but the previous tone used gave me the impression it wasn't necessarily simple. Now I am digesting it a little differently. I need to try this. Depending on how easily and good it works (and it seems as though it would be very easy) this would be a HUGE factor... Especially for first time users. It seems the rabbit hole goes deep with this product.
Dr. G says water only...and I trust him so that's what I've been doing. It takes very little effort to remove residue from the Optimum stuff, so I don't think you will marr unless something is in your towel.
I have been doing some testing with applying too thick and seeing what could be done. Dr G and a member on Optimum forums had good luck with Poliseal and when I tried it it worked like a charm. It's really cool that it only removes the excess and not the bonded layer.
So the correct way is just using the Ploy-foam applicator right?
Also Chris what is the major difference between Opti-Coat 2.0 (consumer) and Opti-Guard?
We include a yellow poly foam applicator because it has the best qualities without wasting product by absorbing too much. Microfiber applicators will lessen the chance of high spots, but you need to transfer the product from the syringe into a small sprayer so that it primes the face of the applicator (you will also use more product from absorption, but not a bunch). Basically you are just trying to apply a thin, even coat so however you want to do that is fine.
The only difference is the delivery solvent. The one in the pro version will dry and cure faster and has less workable time. The consumer version will still flash pretty fast, but gives you a little more time to spread it before it flashes so that if you are nervous or going slow you have a little more time.
Where is the information online that describes the "other method"? Is this the correct, or suggested way of applying OC?
They may mean the methods in my video. I show how to apply it to the applicator, via a sprayer, and directly to the paint. I titled the thread "VIDEO: Opti Coat Application" if you want to search it.
...Thanks Chris. See these guys DO listen lol! You can now retire:dblthumb2: That is pretty sweet you can level out thick spots with a finishing polish and not need to reapply. So is ANY finishing polish ok...say like a M205 or a pinnacle XMT#1 or something like that?
I have only tried Poliseal and Optimum Finish, but I don't see why those wouldn't be ok. Just use the least aggressive pad and polish combo you can so that you don't remove any more of the coating than is necessary.
