Ran into a big problem today...

+1 for IPA and 3M General Adhesive Remover.

IPA is alot cheaper, but the 3m makes real quick work of road tar and sap. Good luck.

Sap sucks. Plastic razor blades for the majority and Prep Sol to clean it off Is what I use. Also this may be one of the few instances where working in direct sunlight is beneficial. I have never found a truly easy way of removing it. Tidious and elbow grease make it a PITA no matter how you look at it.

Another good one to try is the 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. That stuff will dissolve just about anything without hurting paint.

I completely forgot I had some of this. I just tested it vs. Tarminator on some baked on grime on the paint.

3M > Tarminator

Good call, Charlie! :props:

if IPA works then why not try Eraser?

The trick would be keeping the eraser on the tar spots as I imagine it's pretty runny

mark, i would try a agg clay with alot of lube. maybe try spraying something that will soften it up first then clay it :)

late post but big +1 for goof off. I deal with a lot of sap up here.

Mark,

Any luck getting that sap off your car? I just ran into the same problem. I washed my car yesterday and found sap all over, it did not release easily and there is more to remove.

Thanks,
Sparty (Art)

I swear by Goof Off as far as sap in concerned. $3 at your local hardware store.
