Rate these swirls from 1-5

Look at the video below very closely and then rate these swirls from 1-5 with 1 being a flawless finish 5 being very deep or horrific swirls.

1 = Show Car Finish - No swirls in the sun at all
2 = Fine shallow swirls from wiping with a spray detailer over time.
3 = Medium depth swirls from improper washing over time
4 = Heavy swirls from abuse and neglect and/or using a brush style car wash
5 = Horrific, deep swirls induced by the misuse of a rotary buffer

:dunno:

5... looks like there is lot of buffer induced marring and swirls. Almost looks as though someone with greasy hands wiped their fingers across the paint. I am assuming those are buffer trails?

The green car? 4
The black car you reflected the green car off of? 1. Flawless finish.

Either that or there is something seriously wrong with the lens of that camera because it looks like it's underwater.

Look at the windshield in the first few seconds. Also the last few seconds.

Probably just a dirty lens on my iphone 4, (not 4s, much less quality camera). Had to hurry while I had sunshine.

I took the video and the pictures as soon as I could. Right now it's pouring down rain! Here, I just stepped outside my office and took these shots and it's a lot worse than the pictures make it look.

Oh ok my bad. I thought you were trying to pull a fast one by reflecting one car off of one with a mirror like finish lol! I couldn't figure out how you made it look like you walked around the car without an LCD screen and some heavy post processing though! You'd practically have to do the whole scene in CG to do that I think!

So I say 4. Let me guess, the owner thinks it's not that bad?

 I never pull fasts ones... spent too many years building a good reputation with a posting history on any forum to back it up.

I just turned the video function of my iPhone on and took a quick video. To be honest, I couldn't tell for sure if I was picking up the swirls because it was to bright to see what the camera was seeing via the screen on the phone. So I just did my best drawing on experience filming swirls on cars...

To my pleasant surprise, when I returned to my desk and previewed the video, what you see is what I captured. Then I ran the owner home to his house and a few minutes later it's now raining cats and dogs.

I'm serious when I say you have to get the "sun shots" or "sun highlighted swirl video" when the getting is good here in South Florida. The weather changes in a heartbeat.

:D

Ive seen a lot worse, that paint actually looks pretty typical for most of the daily drivers I see in our lot at the office.

Im going with 3.

It looks to be a lot of them but they don't seem very deep so I'm going with a 3

Reminds me of my sister's '68 Camaro, such a beautiful show car, but she uses a cheap buffer and the swirls are crazy. I turned her onto lots of excellent products which she now loves over her old Turtle stuff, but she won't listen to me about getting a new polisher and varying degrees of pads.

Looks like a fun one to work on, Mike! Cool color combo too, much better then the green interior! :xyxthumbs:

I'd put it at about a 3-4 based on what I could see.

Question about the video though....what are you using to keep the camera movement so fluid....I know you're hands aren't that steady with all the Rockstars you drink! :D

I just picked up a new DSLR camera with HD video...
