Reason I won't use a coating again

It was a pre release kit. Will be sold starting March 2017.

So going back to the thread title "Reason I won't use a coating again" is the result of an unreleased product with little to no information available.... that just doesn't seem fair to the rest of the coatings out there that have had years and years of testing by both pros and consumers.

Again, not saying that any coating will prevent iron deposits, but it is a little unusual to write off coatings in general when the only data you've gathered comes from a (relatively) unknown product.

If you've got another vehicle, perhaps you could pick up a more popular option and do some comparisons (if you haven't noticed... people around here like head-to-head product battles. 2 will enter, one will remain. Fight to the death. That sort of thing ;) )?

Going to have to agree with Zach on everything he posted in this thread. I am curious as well as why this coating was chosen over a tried and true coating. Perhaps the one that was used is a beta version.

Either way, use an iron remover and wash it.

The OP used an unproven, yet to be released coating from none of the top vendors and is writing off all coatings? Has the OP used an unknown brand carnauba wax that didn't deliver and sworn himself off all nuba's entirely too?

Relax relax. I was hesitant to use a coating in the first place and am disappointed in the results after 2 weeks with iron deposits. Shame on me. I have not ruled out coatings completely. Like I said, just disappointed. I will try another one from a known company here at AG and go from there. Looking at Opt Coat and WG Ceramic. See if my results are the same. This kit does bead like crazy that is for sure! Better beading than I get with Collinite 845.

So everyone simmer down now... LOL My post was impulsive:)

Impulse buy thats why. Looked easy to apply, price seemed fair. I will try something different to compare.

How can you impulse buy something that isn't available yet?

According to him it has been tested the last year and a half all over the Country. It's acrylic. Was a short period he offered the kit pre release. I jumped on it.

Too bad you missed out the good deal on gloss coat the other day.

Since you already have the coating on the paint give it a decon wash and test it out. Let us know if it is any good. Have you spoken to Gary Dean about this?

Odd that you mentioned scratch resistance earlier.... If my memory serves me right, in general, acrylics (ie plexiglass) are usually quite a bit easier to scratch compared to glass. Maybe that does not hold true when broken down to a super thin automotive coating layer.

The only other coating that I am believe was an acrylic (which is by no means all of them as there are new coatings popping up every hour... as this thread proves) was Americana Ameriarmour (and perhaps Americoat as well). Both were stupid easy to apply, but my personal testing with Ameriarmour left a lot to be desired.

Both are now no longer in existence as far as I know... I guess what I am getting at is there is probably a reason that silica (glass) coatings dominate the market and acrylic ones do not. Just a hunch as I don't actually have any background in designing and formulating nano coatings.

Glad I am not the only one that feels this way about Ameriarmour. I have it on my brothers car and on my own and I feel the same as you. It will be coming off shortly for something else.

Zach pretty much nailed it all.If it's in the air it's going to land somewhere. I tell people all the time if you want a perfect car leave it sit in the garage and drive your other one and just go in once in a while and look at it.

I am by no means blaming the product. It will be good to get another coating such as Optimum to see how it compares.

Breezed through the thread but missed what coating you used? IIRC McKee's was discussed in another thread you posted in. That's what I have on my personal vehicles and have used on nearly ever customer car I've done since my start of using it. I think I've only done two vehciles that were not coated and one was that way because it was single stage.

So far my assessment is that perhaps somewhere along the lines what happened in your world was just a basic misalignment of expectations. It's not that the product is defective or not doing all that it claims but rather just a misunderstanding on how coatings work. I was very hesitant at first and while protection is what I was looking to achieve, it was the added look of the gloss and candy effect that they offer that led me to them. Go figure given I have two black vehicles.

In summary as others have said, the solution is a simple Iron-X treatment that will be needed regardless of the type of sealant you would have on the car. Of course being in the Midwest like me, you might just clean the vehicle up and test-coast half of it over-top of the coating to see if another product you are looking at might offer better secondary level protection.

I say that as previous to coatings, I was a huge Colline fan. The white Fiesta ST I just completed has two applications of McKee's 37 Coating but the following week I applied 2 coats of Collinte 476 as per the customers request. I'll be curious as to how his vehicle fares over the winter. Thus far, we're snow free, but it's coming.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't see how a coating is responsible for a rust particle landing on a car.

Nothing short of a cocoon will keep things from landing on a car.

Did the spots wash off with a regular wash?

Would they come off untreated surface as easily?

Not sure I'm getting the point?

I'm not sure if ruling out the top silica/ceramic coatings because an acrylic coating didn't work out is necessarily a wise choice. Try out an actual silica coating and see how it fares instead of an untested and unproven product.
