Removing overspray?

Hi all!

I'm working my new-to-me MKZ and trying to undo some of the fun stuff the dealer left behind for me on the finish. After a thorough washing, I set out with my trusty little Nanoskin Autoscrubby sponge to remove what I thought was just a light layer of "lot grime" but I found instead that it is fairly thick overspray...everywhere.

The attached picture is a shot of the hood. The area closest to the camera and some of the splotchy areas in the background are where the Scrubby has worked it's magic and revealed the paint but it's taken me about an hour to do maybe a quarter of the hood and the rest of the car will require about as much effort by the looks of it. The little nanoskin sponge is making progress but this just might a bit much for it.

I'm planning on working in some Wolfgang TSR and glaze, anyway, so I was wondering if that combo will take care of this little mess w/o having to waste a couple of days with the Scrubby? Or, am I better off removing the overspray first?

Thanks!

I'd remove overspray first.

Try using flowing water from hose as a lube for nanoskin to remove overspray.

If not working, switch to conventional clay like the 3M purple clay, it'll take care of heavy overspray. Mother's yellow clay may work as well.

Soft clays like Sonus white clay would not be my choice (it's very soft), so it's not only switching to conventional clay, if nanoskin is not working you'd better switch to medium / aggressive regular clay.

Nowadays I have a claytowel from CarPro which is very good for overspray, better than my nanoskin stuff = so when I have to deal with any overspray I reach the CarPro towel first.

After claying, polish and seal, you're done.

Kind Regards.

Thanks for the advice! I figured the answer was going to be keep going on the overspray. :)

I kept going after I posted and am making some progress. I started putting more elbow grease into it and finished the hood and a fender. I found the spot that was repainted on the fender and the overspray is getting lighter as I move away. The worst should be behind me. Found more overspray on all of the chrome trim on the grill and on the front wheels... yay.

Thanks!
