Repairing "The other guy's" work.

Sometimes I get excited and jump the gun a little. In a little over an hour this car will be dropped off in my driveway so that I can repair the hack work done to it by a so called detail shop in Harrisburg PA. How anyone can do this type of work and with a good conscience call it done is beyond me. It doesn't appear to be very sunny today but I hope to get some decent before and after shots of this one if the sun does peek through the clouds. I'll be posting the results in this thread later this evening.

Here is a pic that I took with my cell phone a few weeks ago. This gal paid $135 to this hack to have him make her car look worse than before she took it to him. Of course the entire car looks like the hood does in this photo. Well at least I can skip the cutting step on this one.

That is one heck of a hack job...But it's places like that, that gets us new customers!!!

I'd also be interested in what products you like for those tight, honeycombed grills. I've got a problematic one on a Hyundai that chalks out after a couple of months. Rather than beat my brains out doing it by hand I've been using Meg's aerosol Trim Detailer with better results than anything else. I'm thinking of trying Opti Coat on it to see if I can keep it black.

OMG!!!! I can not even believe what this place has done to this car. I shot that first photo with my phone at work while just passing by the car walking through the parking lot on my lunch break. Now the car is in my driveway and it's still raining a little but will clear up shortly. Here are a few photos I took in my driveway this morning. I will be doing a comprehensive documented and notarized "upon arrival inspection" accompanied by color glossy photos of each and every debacle that I find on this car before I even touch it with any of the tools of our trade.

Not only to cover myself from any litigation but to document things so that this customer can go after "the other guy" for the cost of having this stuff repaired. Some of this stuff I will not be able to repair and the customer is fully aware of that.

This is unbelievable.

These photos are only a few things that stood out while quickly glancing over just the driver's side of the vehicle. I will be getting lighted photos showing the depth of the damage in full after the rain passes.
 
The rain is a real challenge today, Dave. Should get some clearing this afternoon. Wish I could get up there to work with you.
Was this hack blind with one bad arm? It is just unbelievable how badly they wrecked that car. Good luck!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that was with Makita and M-105 with 4" Cyclo Wool (yellow) pad followed by 3M Ultra Fine with Makita on Cyclo (white) finishing pad.
 
Nice job thus far...you've definitely found your "go to" method to correct this big mishap, ha. I think a lot of us find a sick happiness when having to repair a hack detailers work, haha.

I think it's because these types of jobs are always more challenging. I love a challenge! Keep it up Dave! :dblthumb2:

Now keep in mind that my intent is not to create a show car finish or 100% correction and these photos are before any LSP.
 
I can't believe how badly that paint was hacked up.

A show car finish is not always necessary. You are taking a paint full of holograms and buffer trails and leaving a nice clear finish. I think you're doing an excellent job!
