"Reputation Management" - Chem Guys

There are shady practices all over the place, that's why I never listen or take the advice of anyone that's being paid to give it, I'll refer to the average Joe who has nothing to gain and is more likely to be honest.

BTW, who owns Chemical Guys now? I read somewhere that the previous owner is the current owner of 3D.

i think its the guy that show's up in the videos
the last video they made he announced that

Chemical Guys sells great stuff, some not so great products also.. But as for their reviews, they are definitely "fake". And I also am led to believe they will edit reviews that they don't think are... "productive".

On the other hand some real reviews are horrible. One guy on Amazon gave an electric blower for a fireplace a 1 star because when he went to plug the fan in behind his fireplace the contractor never hooked up that outlet....I kid you not.

Quite common.

You do have to read bad reviews since the reasoning is not always valid.

jet seal 109 is real good stuff.Needs to be put on thin. ps to all Chemical Guys is now owned by autogeek .

Of course Chemical guys are marketers, they are product resellers. They manufacture nothing. Warner Chemical is the blender. So if they come across as heavily promoting a product with a flurry of adjectives, -- well that's what they are supposed to do. Market & Sell.

I have been at this long enough to remember when some of the pictures at the CG website were bottles of Warner Chemical products--with the same name on them (this was back when they only sold gallons and before they fully embraced their current personality and naming craziness). That's why I thought they would never become a line at AG, because they always seemed pretty transparent, but they have certainly learned the marketing chords to strike.

I always thought they were actually owned by Warner, and functioned as their internet/boutique marketing arm. But they may simply be a franchise or distributor.

I get a kick out of their old fashioned snake-oil sales pitch. They just don't seem to miss a trick. For example, they put huge warning labels on their products. Why? Because they are socially responsible manufacturers? No, its part of the Chemical Guys drama. A lot of us me included, think the bigger the warning label the better the product.

I'm willing to give them a pass. In my limited experience, their products have been good (Maxi-suds) to excellent (Citrus wash). As for Jetseal, I've had nothing but excellent results, using as directed. My car just hit its third winter month under a coat and is still shedding water like a champ. No way am I going to spend that kind of money after this bottle ends, though. I'll get some Duragloss or a Collinite product instead. (I'm not a hobbyist; just a guy trying to protect his new car).

P.S. Jetseal is a bestseller for Chemical Guys. Time wins out. It can't perpetually be internet horse pucky. You know, "all of the people all of the time" and all that.

the thing i dont like about cg is the fact they dont have a active rep here, like optimum, mothers, prima and so forth

They also need to run a spell check and grammar check on their labels.

yeah I don't believe it. I think AG would let us know if they bought CG.... at least indirectly. Ever wonder how pinnacle, blackfire, dp, and wolfgang have their own subforums? Doesn't take a genius to match the dots.

I am pretty sure smartwax is supposed to be the owner of chemical guys. I have never had problems from their products. I am not a huge fan but have couple of products and no problems. Silk shine has worked great and CWG has been great. Never had problem with cust service either. recently ordered some mf, they sent wrong size. With one call they sent the correct size in 3 days. Granted I order 95% from Ag but sometimes you got to go other places.

caveat emptor

Sadly one must be very cautious these days. Some companies spend huge sums on marketing average products which then get much more press than superb products which have limited marketing. As per the OP, even more worrying is how much manipulation exists. Of course bad reviews will be suppressed and good ones encouraged. Making no reference to Chemical Guys, I know that in some instances positive press is in fact rewarded and there will be some detailers out there who are very keen on certain brands and will never actually have to pay for the products. It is a big bad world out there and you do have to take internet comments with a pinch of salt.

Hucksterism built this great nation. Those Chemical Guys don't miss a trick. For example, they like to put "For Professional use Only!" on their labels. People figure the more dangerous a product is, the better it is.
I give them a pass. I've got two coats of Jetseal three months into the winter. I have salt brine dried on the plastic trim and and Jetseal is still shedding water like a champ. In my limited experience, their products range from good, (their every day car wash) to excellent (Citrus car wash, Black on Black). Most of the time their products are fairly priced. Jetseal is an exception. Jetseal remains one of their most popular liquid products so they must be doing something right. You can't fool all of the people all of the time, right?

Smartwax is the consumer line of CG products, hence the "professional" designation on the CG labeled stuff. Much more streamlined product offering with consumer line. Directed to different markets.
