Review: Mothers Professional Compound and Polish

Nice review and nice results. Thanks for the info.

You're welcome. Thank you for viewing.

Very nice review. These along with most every product Mothers make are great performers. Just because you can buy it in a big box store doesn't mean it doesn't work or is cheaply made weak product. Here's what you can expect from the compound using a MF pad and a dual action polisher.

Not to hijack your post but to only show more results with these products the full post can be seen here.

I agree 100%! Thank you for sharing that picture and thread about your experiences with this product and mf pads. Looks like it works great with that combo :buffing:.

awesome writeup caleb! I have always been curious about that combo myself and unfortunately I feel mothers gets overshadowed by other brands because they have essentially always been available and "otc"

Thanks Drew :)!

Looks good. Great Review.

That hood looks like it has some terrible orange peel though.

Thank you. Yes it does suffer from a bit of orange peel.

Great review and beautiful work on that Mustang...........:props:

Used the Polish last weekend.

Stained my white CCS pads.

Have tried Dawn so far.

Still dark grey.

What are you using to clean your pads after Mother's Polish?

Kyle, glad you mentioned that. I couldn't get my white pads clean either. They are still grey/purple despite my normal soak in hot water with CG pad cleaner with periodic agitation with pad brush then rinse under sink. The orange pads that were used with the mothers compound came out clean, but the white pads are useless for anything else now. This is a product that you will have to dedicate specific pads to. No other grey polish I have ever used has stained like this.
The Polish is really dark, like grape purple and it's very thin and watery, not like a lotion consistency of most other polishes. It gives decent results, but I can't get past the inability to get the pads clean.

Does the staining affect the pads in more way than just the colour?
I'm just wondering why people feel they are useless for other polishes after the staining.

I have only used the polish by hand when sprucing up my wheels. It did stain the foam applicator pad. It's not a big problem since that applicator pad was on it's way out. Perhaps Forrest or Jim will respond on how to get the pad all cleaned up.

On a side note I was helping my brother polishing his car since it was that time again. The hood had some deep scratches. I typically use D300+ MF cutting pad but I forgot to pack my D300. I tried M105 + MF cutting and it worked really well. But it was painful to remove at times. So I switched it up and used the mothers compound with the + MF Cutting. Worked out do much better that I thought. It almost finished LSP ready. It did not dust like M105. It also was a breeze to remove unlike M105.

That is why you should use a black finishing pad with there polish IMO. To me a stained pad isn't a big deal as long as its cleaned thoroughly. It can still be used with other compounds and polishes, no need to designate it to just the Mothers since it's stained :).

No it doesnt effect the pad in any way, its just stained. I dont know why this bothers people so bad either. The pad isnt ruined, just stained lol.

I also like the Mothers Compound over Meguiars. It has a longer working time and doesnt dust. Mothers is underrated, hence why I wrote this review. I'm glad you found it useful :dblthumb2:.

Pad choice should NOT be dictated by a polish that stains.

Basic question is...Why do some manufacturers put dye in polish anyway?

Shoot, BFWD stained every pad I ever used it on, and I never saw anyone complain about that. I'm definitely trying Mother's, and that quart of 105 will get re-gifted to a buddy.

Thought I'd update this a little. This is still a very nice compound and polish. Much better than M105 IMO and both products do not dust. Great 1 2 combo.

This is on a swirled out Ford Ranger. Compound was used on a Buff & Shine orange pad with 5 passes and the polish was used on a Black Buff & Shine pad.

Dont underestimate Mothers just because you can get a lot of this stuff OTC. They are great products.

I've always felt that Mother's and Meguiar's were pretty much on par with each other, except that Meg's has their pro line of products. Meguiar's just has a much bigger following online, which is why I started and still use their products instead. I have little doubt Mother's products can perform on the same level.

how often to use the Mothers Compound? Is it every 3mo? 6mo? 1yr?

That's quite an open ended question. What are you trying to achieve?

After I used this product, what is the ideal interval to do this step 1 (cut) step 2 (polish) and step 3 (wax) then hopefully maintain a monthly wax only.

as per advise to me, step 1 (rubbing compound) every year only and step 2 (polishing) every 3 months and step 3 (wax) monthly.
