Review: NEW 2014 Mothers Back-to-Black Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner

It's not a new version - it's a different product.

Back-to-Black Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner. It's a cleaner, to be used before applying our trim restorer.
oops....... mea culpa....... So, I'll add this new cleaner then use the trim restorer....... should get even better results, which would be amazing!! :dblthumb2:

As you can see, my windshield cowling is dull & faded. The directions state to apply the product directly onto the brush. I decided to use the supplied brush to clean the hard to reach areas, and treat the rest of the trim with an MF towel. I thoroughly massaged the gel onto the trim, and buffed it off using moderate pressure. Its important not to let the product dry.

Very Nicely executed review, your format, photos and text editing are refreshing to read.

My questions are, what were the factors that led you to not following the directions and using a microfiber towel instead of using the brush as directed.

Your trim looked quite oxidized before and to be honest, it doesn't look much less oxidized after the product had been applied. Sure it's a different color but to me it looks uneven like you used too little amount of product and may not have gotten the full benefit of the product.

Maybe it's just the lighting in the photo, maybe it's just skepticism on my part. Maybe it's just that experience has proven to me over and over that half measures typically lead to a less than thorough result.

Is the brush too stiff, perhaps you had concerns about it scratching your plastic trim?

A few other questions...

Does the product have a slick silicone like feel when you get it on your fingers?

Does it leave a slimy feel like a strong APC might leave if you get it on your fingers?

Do you think this product will create a bond with Back to Black dressing, or prevent any silicone run off stains below side mirrors etc. when used with the Back to Black dressing. I've seen these streaks in the past using Back to Black in a very thin application after a few rains.

Not trying to be a douche, just trying to incite some deeper thought or discussion on the product and it's application methods.

So the product is not available yet? Then you must have gotten a free sample to test and evaluate.

The product is available at some e-tailers and retailers already.

AG just hasn't added it to their site yet.

Not a problem, this is what the forums are for. To initiate questions and debate about products.

The brush isnt stiff, it definitely wont scratch your trim. My sole reason for not using it was to see what the product itself could do, without the brush. Had I used the brush as directed could I have got even better results? Very possibly

As far as using to little product, I could of probably used more. Although on my initial testing, it didnt require much more for the trim I was treating. Remember my trim panels were relatively small, and other users trim may vary. My lighting in my new garage isnt the greatest, granted its also my first time doing snapshots in this garage vs my old home back in California. For this, I apologize. The pictures dont give it justice as how well the results turned out. Poor lighting+iphone camera isnt the best combo, but its all I got.

The product feels like a light hair gel, thats about the best I could describe it. Definitely not slimey. As far as it creating a bond with the B2B original formula, I dont think this product itself would create a bond. I think more of the fact that it leaves you with a clean prepped surface, that a dressing would be able to adhere to more effectively.

Granted, Mother's recommends you follow up with a dressing of their own, but like I stated to others I think you should be fine with whatever product you decide to follow up with.

Again great review, and great informative reply to my questions.

I liked most of the Mothers products I've used in the past. Due to your review and feedback, I think I'll grab a bottle of this product and give it a try.

Another great review. I will be picking this up when it is available.

Looking forward to your next review.

Thanks for the review! Definitely on my list of products to get.

Great review! Can't wait to try it on my '06 Mazda's neglected trim.

Glad you enjoyed it, I have an article coming up soon so look out for that.

Looks like another great product.
I agree! Thanks for checking it out.

All clear now, thanks for the clarification Aaron!
Not a problem. Its easy for this product to be mistaken for a dressing.

Absolutely, thanks for checking it out.

If you ever get the chance to try it, let us know how it worked for you!

Excellent review, thank you! This is a product that was on my wish list as a maybe, but based on this review I am going to try it out. I know someone else asked although I didn't see an answer, but I was curious if anyone has followed up after this product with DLUX?

Thanks for the review.

I've been looking for a replacement to the Meguiars Ultimate Black.

The Meg's stuff does what it claims to do, but the results last only until the next rainfall, which in south Florida can be every couple of hours. Not to mention it's very greasy.

Will be picking up some Mother's soon.

mothers produces really good otc products. I love their rim cleaner, their showtime detailer and their cali gold wash. I was in a pinch on a friends wrangler while claying and their kit preformed very well.

I will be using this product when I apply and review Gtechniq C4 soon. It shouldnt affect its application, stay tuned.

Thanks for the review.

Just be advised this isnt a dressing like Megs Ultimate Black, its simply a cleaner.
