Review: Opti-Seal (Updated 4/26)

I got my bottle of Opti-Seal yesterday and thought I'd give it a try. This has been probably one of the most anticipated products for me lately. Anything that claims to lock in the look of a carnauba and adds to the look has to be tried! This, along with being highly concentrated, could make it a steadily used product in my detailing regimen.

I simply washed my truck with NXT Tech wash and an Edge Wash ShMitt. I have applied XMT 360 and then a layer of Souveran Paste Wax about 12 days ago. Souveran was still going strong, so this was going to allow me to see this locked-in look that Opti-Seal is claiming. I first tried applying it with a micro-fiber applicator but noticed that it absorbed way to much product. So, I broke out a Wolfgang applicator pad. I used the soft, black side. I first primed it with 2 sprays. I then sprayed the middle of the hood. This product really goes along way......as claimed. I was able to do the whole driver's side without another spray. I then did the glass and even the plastic mirror housing. It simply vanished. Even on the glass. I then did the windshield and the rest of the painted surfaces using only 2 more sprays......this was 6 total including the pad priming sprays. Since the pad still felt damp, I went ahead and did the wheels for testing durability and brake dust removal. Oh yeah, the look. Simply wet and deeper than just the wax alone. The paint and glass was as slick as if I had used a quick detailer on them. I'm very impressed this product. So far it does all it claims to. I will have to see how the durability is. Expect an update in two weeks.

The Pictures:

This turned out to be the best pad in my arsenal to use. I'm sure any foam applicator will be fine. I really like how this one felt in my hand though.

Not at all in my opinion. No streaking........even in the sun.

Thanks for the review, Justin. It'll be interesting to see how long OS will keep that carnauba, deep-wet look, locked in. Looking forward to hearing more in 2 weeks!!
BTW, truck looks wet, wet, wet!!

Thanks for the review! Mm yellow..reminds me, I saw a yellow Vette today parked, reminded me of you Justin :p

im glad you posted this after I placed my order, or else I would have to eat ramen noodles for an additional week.

Wow it looks really great i wish i had some opti-seal i love optimum stuff it all works great!

since we shared a bottle, I can only disagree in a perplexed manner, and saw I had streaking. I used around 2-3 spritzes per panel maximum, and a cloth applicator (seems the only real difference here). Have you tried the ZCS version ?? Any other colored vehicles with Opti-seal ??

I only used that many sprays for my whole truck. Not per panel. Maybe you used to much.

I have not tried the others.

Thanks Justin for your review. I got mine yesterday! Be using it this weekend!

Subscribed! Can't wait to hear the results...and wish I had tossed a bottle in with my last order ..... which apparently has been with my local post office the past two days....apparently they can't verify my freaking address according to the tracking # / website. sigh...oh well. Raining all this weekend, so no detailiong for me :(

LOL was just about to order JUST opti-seal (free foam applicators!!! I need a few extra) until I saw how much it wanted me to pay to ship it :O 20.99....thats almost the cost of opti-seal. heh.

Guess I'll have to wait :(
Disadvantage of living in the Great White North!

Raining all day here. This was good chance to see the "beading" vs. "sheeting" of Opti-Seal. It definitely sheets and beads. Water runs off veritcal surfaces and beads on horizonal ones. Once I got up to 30mph, nothing stuck though! The hood was dry in 15 seconds. I'm pleased.

looks like P21S and Zaino still rule the small tight beads ... nice overall, and will take advice and use less.

Very nice pics of beading!! I love the picture of that side-mirror housing! It looks so.....so...... I don't know what word to use? Dark, smooth, uniform look, no streaking, beads. That was OS on the mirror housing too, right Justin? Did OS darken the color of it?

That's OS on the housing and window trim. Just gave it a clean look. It didn't add anything like a protectant would. The water just fell off of it! Same for the window. There was a bug or two but when the wipers hit them, gone!

I really like this stuff. I'm even going to try it on the interior glass and plastics.
