Reviewed: Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss

I'm a bit disappointed that autogeek.net doesn't sell this on a Gallon size. I had to buy 2 x 16 oz for the price of the gallon on the Chemical Guys website. I found out after the fact...

We've stated several times that gallon sizes will become available. If you have such a question before you place an order, we're only a phone call away. Gallons should be up within the next day or two. :dblthumb2:

This is a cool picture. Nice review Nick. I gotta add this stuff to my next order

It suds more then any shampoo I have ever used but need to rinse well during wash as use higher dilutions. Its certainly a great shampoo

What's really confusing is the conflicting information of what ratio to use. The conflicting information comes from there very own websites

To Wash:

CG USA - 1 cap (5mls) full with 3-5 gallons of water for a superior wash
That's 2270-3785:1

CG Australia - 1/2 oz (15mls) mixes with 1-2 gallons of water for a superior wash
That's 252-504:1

To Strip:
CG USA - 1oz with 1 gallon water
That's 126:1

CG Australia - 2oz with 1 gallon water
Thats 63:1

And I have even seen people on the forms suggest:
CGWG Strip 128:1
CGWG Dirty 256:1
CGWG Regular 512:1

128:1 - sounds right to strip wax. I can only suggest that sounds right as not used it to strip LSP yet.

512:1 - I have used at this amount. Its way too much for a regular wash. Crazy amount of suds and would be concerned it may do some damage to my LSP. It will also spot unless you rinse between panels

512-4000:1 - I'm tempted to use it between the 2000-3000 mark. What do you guys and girls use for a regular wash?

i dont know if anyone subscribed to this thread, but maybe the difference between the US and Australian site is that the size of a gallon is different in the US than most other countries...before you flame me, 1 US gallon = 3.78541 litres, 1 Australian gallon (which i think is the imperial gallon)= 4.22 litres. This could be the reason for the difference in the calculations on different international sites.

I'd suggest cg wash and clear for stripping because its supposed to leave nothing behind, ideally prepping for the best clean bare paint surface. its what I use.

I don't understand, why does the CG website tout the clear as a super safe daily wash that DOES NOT strip wax or sealants??

Depends on dilution ratio, mild ratio safe, strong ratio strips.

I gathered that, but it's just dumb that they don't say anything about that on their site!

Totaly agree with you. As usual CG site has different directions and dilution ratio from bottle. Before they revamped their site they had different ratio including striping dilution but it's still on the last bottle I got a month ago. They have a few excellent products but way to confusing and conflicting descriptions and instructions. Plus IMO to many overlapping products. Easy to tell the marketing boys have all the influence on their site.

Didn't realized how much gloss the CG citrus wash and gloss left behind until I used Meguiars Gold Glass today. The Megs didn't leave and nice gloss behind. The Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss definitely leave a nice gloss behind after you dry the vehicle.

Used today, 2oz in Foamaster 16oz and 1oz in the bucket.

Stripped all wax (Griot's Best in Show)!

Final rinse and no beading

Love it!

Tried to google but unable to get any answer... Has any if you guys tried to use this to clean foam pad or microfiber cloth? I know cg have specific product (cg pad cleaner and cg mf rejuvenate) but am thinking if I order the 1 gallon bottle can really save a lot on getting 2 more products from cg just to achieve the same objective.... ALL by cg cwg! Cheers!

whats the wash by CG that is highly diluteable and does not strip wax?

it's too sudsy, I wouldn't do it.

Thanks so much for the great review!

I've been using this, along with the CGs Red Citrus Wash, for a couple years now, and really like them!

My one confusion however, is all of my client's get a hand-wax anyway... so, wouldn't using a wash-soap which is meant to cleanse and prepare the paint in the initial phase of prepping that has gloss-enhancing or even wax properties... be redundant or useless? (I'm speaking only from a professional detailing prospective - if/when I wash our personal vehicle(s), I love the gloss boosting effects).

THANKS! :)

PS: What would your car-wash soap of CHOICE be for something that is AGGRESSIVELY strong to strip wax/polishes and perhaps even sealants? I am really in the market for something ideal before paint correction to totally cleanse the paint.

Used it today for the first time. I bought the 1gallon jug and used a cap full of CGCWG in 4 gallons. Didn't really see much suds as I expected but it cleaned the car well and left a noticeable shine. Great product!

Citrus Wash & Clear is also an excellent stripper (brass pole not included) :D

I tend to alternate between CW&C and CW&G. Gloss feels a bit more lubrous and leaves a bit more shine, Clear just seems to leave a cleaner feel when drying. Both are excellent soaps and cost effective, especially when bought in gallons. Somebody on one Forum or another put together a cost-comparison chart of a ton of shampoos... CW&G was by far the cheapest per wash.

Does anyone know how to keep Chemical Guys Wash and Gloss from separating in the container when not in use? I shake the fire out of it but when it comes time to use it again it has separated in a big glob on the bottom and who knows what else is on top? I like it as a shampoo but if I can't get this figured out I will dump what I have and use something that is more user friendly. Can't imagine CG letting this get out the door as is!

Hi, as far as I know that's the chemical composition of the wax and citrus base in the bottle. Shaking it before each use is best - like oil and water, there's really no way to avoid the natural separation.

While this is a very good shampoo, IME it wont strip many polymer based sealants in ratios as high as 7 oz : 4.5 gallons (1.5:1). For that, I find the labeling a bit misleading. The separation experienced with this product is normal and unavoidable. You have to shake it before you use it.
