Reviewed: Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss

I have been using this soap happily, even bought the 1 gallon, and apparently, I've been using a little more than I was supposed to for maintenance washes (I use 1-2 oz for 5 gallon bucket). I'll get that down to 1 oz or so (1 cap is 5 ml - so 5-6 caps would be an oz?)

My question is, if you look at the CG comparison chart (https://www.chemicalguys.com/category_s/296.htm), this soap is the only one which is not PH balanced.

What does that actually mean? You can't use it under the sun? Shouldn't let it dry on the car? It's lemon-based, acidic because of LSP stripping feature?

I take that as it is slightly acidic which causes it to be able to strip LSPs. I have never had a issue with using it in direct sunlight but I would never allow any cleaning agent to dry on the vehicle.
This is my go to for pre soaking my pads after use. Cheaper and just as good as the dedicated pad cleaners out there.

OMG! Like Wow!

The product label 'does not make the claim' in post #1.

Thread commenters Pipuk, & someone named Mike, have weighed in very heavily, regarding LSP & chemical removal.

In fact some very famous person said, to get all LSP removed it's mechanical action, assumption the polishing phase.

Sticking to discussion of this product ONLY, why would AGO claim abilities, that CG does not claim on it's label

It's my new understanding (refer to thread link above) that CG's CWG is not effective in removal. The dis-continued CG product (non wax friendly) CG Red meant for bugs would be better suited.

My sincere apologies if I'm wrong or mistaken here, but for now this seems like a disingenuous sales ploy!

If I'm wrong here, I can still go back to the 1oz/1gal, strip (got approx 8 oz). I'm okay with being wrong. So who's correct here, PipUK, Mike or Nick?

NO!!!! The product claims wax/sealant safe (see links posts 42 or 42), using more, removes? CG does not make that claim, on it's LABEL.

If the product had the ability that post #1 claims, don't you think CG would claim it?

Mike or Pipuk - please explain comments from

to the rational of post #1. I'm a bit confused!

The original post that started this thread is 4 years old. Things change, information changes.

There's no "ploy" taking place here as you claim?

The only thing or "ploy" is finding out, which thread is correct, there seems to be a difference. In 2012 I used CG products, exclusively, and at that time they did not make that claim, about stripping & LSP's on label. Is what I remember.

I always wonder what was the purpose of Citrus Wash and Gloss when designed. It is a strong cleaner that supposedly leaves gloss.

I can only guess it came from CG's parent Warner Chemicals as something used by drive through car washes wanting a strong cleaner with gloss enhancements. It separates if left sitting for any time and no other soap I use ever has separated. It just seems to be some special purpose product not intended for a typical detailer.

It is a strong cleaner but its original purpose is a mystery to me.

This is my go to for pre soaking my pads after use. Cheaper and just as good as the dedicated pad cleaners out there.

A gentleman on youtube suggested soaking dirty towels with CW&G prior to washing as well. Tried it and you know what? They do come out cleaner & softer.

I had an old bottle that came with the bucket kit - so old that the product turned white - but it managed to yield a positive result. Another plus is the citrus scent is pleasant for long-term soaking, as the load of dirty towels I had were sitting in the bucket for well over two weeks. I'm experimenting with D114 right now and seems to be doing a good job (@ 1:128) as well, albeit I don't deal with heavily caked up pads & towels like many do. It's nice to know there is another good & affordable alternative besides APC and other popular methods.
