Rinseless Washes - 2022

Um...Chilly...that's cuz hybrids are using the motors to do the work of the brakes, in most instances.

Yes, tires are the problem. I have so much conventional wash I still generally wash wheels/tires conventionally, even if I rinseless the rest of the car. One day I will have to work out a rinseless regimen and I am working toward that since I have tire coatings on some of my tires now, that I put on in the fall. There is also of course that rinseless Mothers tire cleaner, I think I only tried that once, a little messy.

Yeah, I know that the motors assist in braking and braking generates power, but they still have discs and pads

The brakes are supposed to outlast the car, but at some point the discs and pads will meet and unless they are made of unicorn stuff I assume brake dust will happen

I'm just saying that's why your hybrids have less dust, because you're effectively using the brakes less. That's the first I'm hearing about "outlasting the car", I always presumed that because of the aforementioned the brakes would last a lot longer on hybrids.

Does anyone know how important it is to wear respiratory protection when using Armour Hero rinseless? They state it under the guide to use section of the product on the Armour website. I'm guessing it's due to the Silica backbone of the product.
It feels like a CYOA moment in this litigious country of ours.

I doubt it's of anymore risk than other RWs. I also hate science as a disclaimer so I could be wrong.

No, I got your point, I realize that the little car makes much much less dust, but there has to be something about the pad makeup that is fundamentally different because what little it does generate comes off with almost zero effort

The front brakes on the larger hybrid are quite different

They have enormous rotors and very large but conventional looking 6 piston calipers

The TX is not a scaled up Prius, it has a smaller battery and doesn’t go into EV mode nearly as often as the UX

I will be honest, the brakes on the TX really surprised me, as huge as they are you have to put your foot into them for normal braking, whereas the UX takes the lightest touch to stop

Two completely different feels and outcomes

I can’t remember where I read a blurb about the brakes theoretically outlasting the car, on the UX anyway

I know Elon Musk claimed that for the brakes on his EV big rig truck, which seems a pretty bold claim

I could see the pads lasting forever, not sure about corrosion etc. not being a problem, depending where you live. My perception is they use SO much more salt around here than they did back...well, way back, and the tires are so much better now and there is a preponderance of AWD vehicles...which would argue for LESS salt, but of course back when everything was 2WD and almost exclusively RWD, everyone put snow tires on in the winter (back before all-season tires), now almost no one does that.

Yeah, there are way too many variables to make across the board pronouncements about brake life; from environmental to driving habits

I tend to be very conservative in fact I just replaced the factory brakes on my 2008 4Runner at 195,000 miles and could have gone longer

I am sure a lot of that was the pad material but still

I retired from running the largest Civil Division in the State of Alaska Trial Courts where I oversaw everything from Small Claims to Superior Court Appeals and my personal default mode is to see possible litigation EVERYWHERE

Cynical?

Yes

Warranted?

I think so, based on what I saw vindictive, greedy, morally bankrupt people be capable of on an everyday basis

Wait--the front pads lasted 195,000 miles??? Or the rear?

You read that correctly

The original factory fronts lasted 195,000 miles

They had as much meat left as the rears

I know that goes against all logic but it is true

I guess I have a light brake foot

I don't race up to lights or stop signs, etc and hammer the brakes

I want to say my friend told me he has the original rear pads on his Ford Explorer about the same vintage as yours, about 150K miles.

Yeah, but what rinseless wash does he use?

(Feeble attempt at getting this thread back on the rails)

Funny you should ask that, because I almost gave him some ONRWW for Christmas, because not long before that he told me he had a bucket of dish detergent and some dollar-store MF towels, and was wiping down his MIL's car and drying it after his wife gave him some grief about it "needing to be waxed". I can't remember if he was using a 2BM, but ultimately, after contemplating me getting him a bucket and grit guard to go with some of my excess ONRWW, I decided I was kidding myself that he was ever going to use this stuff or be interested in a real rinseless wash.

After my daughter and son in law bought a new coated Rav 4 last fall I tried to get him set up like you did but he’s just not interested

Tried Rapid rinseless today… probably one of the best cleaning Rinseless I used. Cleans better than Idrosave but not as slick (absolute slickness comparably)

Car was a good test subject. Real pig. Cleaned it right off.

Pic of encapsulation

Sorry no afters but I’ll try and capture tomorrow.

One thing it’s done better than any Rinseless is break down Bird bombs…. As well as an APC. Happened last night. Sat all day in 80 degree weather was killing me at work. Literally melted the dry stuff away.

You can see it trying to encapsulate….. seems like all 2024 rinsless’s are on another level.

Definitely recommend.

Cleaned windows this morning with Ech20 at 1:30’ish. It’s still my favorite.

More comparable to Preludio maybe?

Preludio is a dedicated pre soak that needs to be followed up with something like a rinseless or waterless wash. It's apples to oranges.

Thanks. No interest in adding steps.
