Rinseless Washes - 2022

I am trying to absorb all of the info here on the latest and greatest rinseless washes and my takeaway is that it would be hard to find an actual BAD product among the ones being discussed over the last few months

This is leading to "deer in the headlights" syndrome on actually selecting a product or family of products so I can move beyond ONR and N914, but that's nothing new in the detailing world

As much as I enjoy learning about new RW products and what they have to offer in the vast sea of competitors, in the end THEY ALL WORK THE SAME. There just isn't a large enough margin of any key attributes that is enough to make a noticeable difference between products.

This talk about "this one has more lubricity" or "this one has more cleaning" or "this one releases dirt better" or "this one has more slickness"....all nonsense if you ask me.

In my own personal experience, I have found that none of these things turn out to be true (well, to a certain degree). I feel that most of the time in this community people tend to reach for things to want to find something unique. Or it may just be easy for us to fall victim to the dazzlement of marketing, lol, which then influences our final opinions.

In the end, use whatever is most popular and/or has a good reputation as a brand.

Totally agree. I think the biggest factor when it comes to determining which 1 is really the slickest depends more on the lsp that’s currently on the paint and it’s condition rather than what rinseless you happen to be testing.

Test 1 rinseless on a car that’s bearly sheeting vs. another with a 2 week old coating and it’s a no brainer which rinseless will feel slicker.

This rings very true a lot of the time

Over the years I have bought something expecting miracles after hearing all the hype and buzz and it turns out to be just another version of the same basic product

I'm not saying it turns out to be a bad product, just not the second coming as claimed

These are very good points and totally makes side by side testing on the same vehicle at the same time a must before coming to any accurate and meaningful conclusions

One other thought I had was simply using a product from a line/brand that you already have confidence in can color your experience

Taking a leap of faith where our precious paint is concerned can be really really hard to do and familiarity and trust in a product can greatly alter our perceptions

Yeah, kind of a description of my 20 years on detailing forums. I'm not sure that people would think that QEW is a bad rinseless today (if it was still around), I think a lot of the improvements in rinseless washing were technique. What have been the real game-changers in detailing over the last 20 years? Perhaps that calls for a new thread.

That would indeed make for an interesting thread

Just like Opie wanting older simpler vehicles, there are days I think back to having a single PC 7424XP, a handful of B&S pads, two spray bottles of Optimum Hyper Compound and Polish, a red bottle of Klasse, a jar of P21s carnauba, a couple bottles of Einzett Cockpit and Windscreen, some 303, a couple of buckets with grit guards, a single mitt, and a gallon of Gold Class

That sounds so primitive but I got a lot of good work done with not much more than that

Now I waste hours fretting over which drying aid to use and what the exact PH and PIR my soap is

IDK

...and the generation before us had a burgundy bottle of Meg's to polish the car and a bottle of Bleach-White and Armor All for the tires and if he was a "Guru", Rain Dance

We're an evolution

I go all the way back to single stage paint, a tin of DuPont, and an old washcloth

And the answer is no, I don’t want to go back to that

I can appreciate what we have now, choices and processes we couldn’t have imagined in decades past

As I age I tend to get more nostalgic

Well, you're only as old as you feel...and I feel old!

Oh, and save that "get off my lawn" stuff for the cows, LOL

LOL, I haven't thought of Rain Dance in ages. I remember when that came out and it was suddenly the bee's knees and everything else was crap. The products and how we use them may have evolved but the power of marketing remains.

Beach towels were best for drying*
And cotton terry cloth hand towels were ideal for washing, they provided the strongest scrubbing ability.

And can’t forget newspaper & windex for the glass.

I had to watch the video to actually remember that product

I remember one gimmick that was like a garden hose pistol attachment that screwed on the hose and had a threaded chamber that held different big lozenges of product for the various processes

A soap one and a wax one and a spotless rinse one

I never bought one but they were really selling them hard on TV

I can’t remember if it was Turtle Wax or some “Ronco” type infomercial deal

What about that garden hose attachment that had like a 12” rotating scrub brush while at the same time allowing you to either spray a soap mixture/or pure water for the rinse.

Those were a sweet fast way to swirl city.

Give them away for free and then just drive around with a mobile detailing van

Except people who buy that kind of crap probably don't even notice the damage
