Everything in detailing is the same for the last 20 years.
The 3M polishes 20 years ago are the same as Sonax.
Pads and machines haven't changed in 20 years.
20 years ago all you had was a rotary and some very dusty polishes that were crap.
Nice to see you, too, noorth.
I guess this is all quotes attributed to me? Perhaps you have me confused with someone else, because I don't think I've ever said anything, about Sonax polishes. I have said that 20 years ago the only way to get meaningful correction was with a rotary.
Rubbish.
He doesn't even polish his cars.
Setec Astronomy is an old man that wants respect because he's been "around". And keeps saying detailing hasn't changed in 20 years...when all the pros say the complete opposite.
Don't listen to him...geez
A member who hasn't been on much lately said to me the forum is no fun anymore, that no one even has a sense of humor. I guess you're the poster boy for that, noorth. And I think less than a week ago, I told people not to listen to me, so you're a bit late to the party on that one, too. You really don't know anything about me; I could be as young and foolish as you, or I could be so old I'm in assisted living (where they won't let me polish my car). Perhaps you haven't noticed, but we're an older group here, the whipper-snappers don't do this forum thing.
I have said on multiple occasions that in regards to detailing, everything has changed in the last 20 years, but nothing has changed. If you could see past whatever animosity you have toward me, for what reason I don't know, you might understand that although we have machines, pads and polishes that we couldn't even dream about 20 years ago, and we have coatings that last for years, etc. etc., what goes on here on the forums is exactly the same as 20 years ago.
20 years ago people would complain that they washed with Meg's Gold Class and it killed the beading of their wax/sealant, people today complain some wash, drying aid, or topper changed the water behavior of their coating. We still have the endless parsing of what is the best polish/coating/wash/glass cleaner/tire dressing/towel etc. etc. We still have the "flavor-of-the-month", we still have the discussions about who *really* makes such-and-such product, which ones are really the same, etc. And we have the cult figures and the people that hate them.
In the end nothing has changed, even though everything has changed, because we are humans, we enjoy the fiddling, we enjoy trying to figure out what might be best and the best way to use it, we enjoy trying new things, and sadly, we can't get along with each other.
