Rinseless Washes - 2022

I kind of thought ADS would be coming up with their own unique sponge. If it's going to be another USS, that might just cement my decision to go grab more of the sponges from Ethos. Really liked that one relative to others I've tried. I'll have to try it with some other RWs though and see if it's a pairing thing or just a good sponge overall.

I guess we need to know 100% but Guz is in "that circle" though

Yeah black is ok on glass but I need color to see the dirt personally

Ive moved away from the sponge. Was using the Ultra Black Sponge on rinseless washes. It was very convenient when done using it as just have to rinse out and set aside to dry.
But i suspect besides the sponge design some of the dirt still sits on the surface of the sponge and therefore has the ability to scratch.
Have moved back to a quality mitt which has the ability to hold more liquid and the dirt doesnt sit on top. Also the mitts go in the washing machine with the towels so i know they are clean.

My RW sponge goes through a soak in the sink and then in the shower with me where I stand on it and clean it while I'm in there, thus using all that water in the shower

I've been leaving them to soak in some RW or even an APC periodically. Good news is, by having limited self-control and a desire to try multiple sponges, I can do a RW with a new sponge for every panel... another way a RW is slowly morphing towards a normal bucket wash with multiple mitts. A 3pH RW and multiple sponges - just don't forget to place the car back inside of its bubble after completion

Me too, I don't understand why people don't get this. I forget who was the first one to come out with black towels for wheels, and I'm like...I need to see the dirt, not pretend it's not there.

I used to use sponges for...something...plastic wheel well liners? I used to throw them in the wash with the mitts, until an old one blew up and I wound up with little bits of it all over everything. Kind of like when you wash a tissue with your clothes.

We had a guy on Autopia who lived in an apartment and used to wash his wheels in the bathtub (when doing winter/summer changeover), but as I've said before...you are HARDCORE

by having limited self-control and a desire to try multiple sponges, I can do a RW with a new sponge for every panel...
Since I have very limited self-control and a lingering desire to like the multiple media method, I have accumulated untold quantities of wash media of various styles...I could use a new piece for every panel for many, many washes. And here I am almost buying a DIY sponge.

I also have noticed that we seem to be adding more water and steps to rinseless washing...to the point where we are almost doing a hose wash without the hose. Even Yvan in that sponge video said something to the effect of "rinseless washing means you rinse less, not that you don't rinse at all". As I have said...I've been on detailing forums for 20 years, and although everything has changed...nothing has changed.

See...there ARE more extreme individuals than myself, bathtub tire and wheel washings

You're not committed.

I have to go clean my extra bathroom and bathtub of detailing supplies... or, just get a hotel room for the in-laws.

He doesn't even polish his cars.

Everything in detailing is the same for the last 20 years.

The 3M polishes 20 years ago are the same as Sonax.

Pads and machines haven't changed in 20 years.

Rubbish.

Setec Astronomy is an old man that wants respect because he's been "around". And keeps saying detailing hasn't changed in 20 years...when all the pros say the complete opposite.

Don't listen to him...geez

I don't recall the Uro-fiber styled pads 20 years ago or spray polish

20 years ago all you had was a rotary and some very dusty polishes that were crap.
Nice to see you, too, noorth.

I guess this is all quotes attributed to me? Perhaps you have me confused with someone else, because I don't think I've ever said anything, about Sonax polishes. I have said that 20 years ago the only way to get meaningful correction was with a rotary.

A member who hasn't been on much lately said to me the forum is no fun anymore, that no one even has a sense of humor. I guess you're the poster boy for that, noorth. And I think less than a week ago, I told people not to listen to me, so you're a bit late to the party on that one, too. You really don't know anything about me; I could be as young and foolish as you, or I could be so old I'm in assisted living (where they won't let me polish my car). Perhaps you haven't noticed, but we're an older group here, the whipper-snappers don't do this forum thing.

I have said on multiple occasions that in regards to detailing, everything has changed in the last 20 years, but nothing has changed. If you could see past whatever animosity you have toward me, for what reason I don't know, you might understand that although we have machines, pads and polishes that we couldn't even dream about 20 years ago, and we have coatings that last for years, etc. etc., what goes on here on the forums is exactly the same as 20 years ago.

20 years ago people would complain that they washed with Meg's Gold Class and it killed the beading of their wax/sealant, people today complain some wash, drying aid, or topper changed the water behavior of their coating. We still have the endless parsing of what is the best polish/coating/wash/glass cleaner/tire dressing/towel etc. etc. We still have the "flavor-of-the-month", we still have the discussions about who *really* makes such-and-such product, which ones are really the same, etc. And we have the cult figures and the people that hate them.

In the end nothing has changed, even though everything has changed, because we are humans, we enjoy the fiddling, we enjoy trying to figure out what might be best and the best way to use it, we enjoy trying new things, and sadly, we can't get along with each other.

I feel the same. I have the UBS, however I much prefer the multiple towel method from a safety point of view. I'm on the border line when it comes to being comfortable with rinse-less washing, so the idea the wash media never re-entering the bucket appeals greatly. I also prefer that I'm using microfiber and not a foam sponge, I don't know, I just associate sponges with the crappy foam things I used with soap when I was a teenager.

TRC now have an updated Ultra-Safe-Sponge (USS), but then this is from a company that sells and recommends using their Ultra Wheel & Body Brush to clean paint with.
