I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to get old road paint off the paint. I just purchased myself a new toy and there is some dried up road paint from who knows when on it. thanks!

Feed back pleaseBump, I know i cant be only one with some dried up road paint

Plastic razor blade or putty knife, heat gun and mineral spirits or virgin lacquer thinner..easy on the clearcoat and paint! Use a microfiber towel. If its caked in the wheel wells scrape away as much as possible then use a terry towel to remove the rest!

I've taken off tons of road paint.

If it's all up in the wheel well...just spray undercoating and cover it up. You'll never get the wheel well back to normal.

I usually try steam first. If it's on any plastic pieces...steam will usually get it off with a little agitation.

For the painted panels, you'll need some sort of plastic chisel,or blade. Heat it up to soften it a bit, and scrape the excess off. Don't scrape down to the cars paint. You just wanna thin out the thicker areas (if there are any).

Then, use either thinner or acetone. Someone mentioned mineral spirits...but that won't work, it's not strong enough.

For the areas where it's only a few dots here and there, you should be able to clay that clean.

It's no easy task, and you want to take your time. Don't try and do too much too soon or you'll cause damage.

Something else that works well, is claying with APC. Say goodbye to your clay bar after though. But, the APC will break down the paint. Takes some elbow grease, but it comes off clean. This doesn't work on the heavy areas. But, if it's light...then it works really well.

Some photos would really help. :dblthumb2:

This subject gets plenty of run. At least once a month someone encounters "Road Paint"

Search Feature is your friend

def. did use the search came up short, thanks

Just checked. Your right! The search feature is useless I guess

Kris pretty much covered everything. Is there a specific question you have?

Sorry about coming across as an a-hole

I just removed some from the wife's Sienna. I took the bulk off with my thumb nail then took a terry cloth, balled it up and poured straight ONR on it and rubbed till the rest of the paint was gone. I was surprised it worked but as always stated on here, use the least aggressive method first. The same process worked on tar also.

Flash, an A-Hole? Yeah right...get outta here! lol

I think it's a computer problem. Some other guys are having issues too. But with Flash, who knows. It could be the government.

that paint thinner doesn't hurt the clear or anything?
