Rookie's first take at polishing G35

Hi guys,

Its been about 5 months now since I polished my car and today I went over the paint with a fluorescent bulb and was amazed at the amount of swirls.

Since polishing my car I have been using the 2 bucket method with sheepskin mitts, rinsing with DI water, and recently began using the foam cannon with a pressure washer. Despite these measures I have a bunch of swirls. I even noticed some new RIDS.

I am realizing that there is no way to beat this. All I can do is just contain it. The RIDS I am seeing, I believe, are from small rocks that just fly from nowhere and target my car while driving. I even think some of the swirls are coming from driving too.

My last resort is to try Cquartz which I have already ordered. Its supposed to prevent marring. If this doesn't work I will raise the white flag and just accept that a black car means polishing it every 6 months. Just wanted to post my results. :)

Black cars are just a lot of work. There was someone on here that swore if you waxed every time after a wash it would make a significant improvement at preventing swirls and scratches.

Keep us up to date on the c-quartz, I have been thinking about putting that on my wife's car.

I haven't found a fool proof system for black yet, and just accept polishing it out every 4-6 months. Fortunately after the first major correction you can usually just one step it.

I guess I am coming in on this 5 months late, but I have to say, you did an outsatnding job the first time around.

Are those curves any easier now?

Thanks Legacy, I will post an update when I get my hands on the Cquartz. I guess the nice thing about polishing 6 months later is only needing to do a 1 step polishing job like you stated. I am hoping Cquartz can be the solution but I honestly have my doubts.

Thanks again tfullercdi, I cannot tell you if the curves are easier as I have only polished this car once. However, I find myself now wanting a FLEX because I don't want to absorb all those vibrations like I do with the Griots DA and would like to work much faster. Once I get more $$ I will buy my Flex.

Black isn't a color, it's a part time job.

Haha, Lol...I remember you saying this a few posts back. Those words sure resonate within me even more. I am praying that Cquartz can be the solution but I am skeptical.

Maybe you should give a nano-tech polymer coating a shot on your bike that has the soft paint also. :xyxthumbs:
