Rotary Dying?

I have not used my rotary a lot. Has just been in the damp Florida garage. That may be the problem.

At low speeds (it is a Hitachi SP 18VA) it stops, jerks a little and has that pungent aroma of a burning electrical thing. I am guessing corrosion in the motor? Time to move on to a new machine?

Could be any number of things. I say get a new machine, ha.

Someone brighter than I, could probably repair it.

I'm thinking DeWalt DWP849X.

Good enough excuse to get the 849x.
Sound like your Tachi has a short, bad brushes, or bad speed control.

Before you buy a new one try spraying CRC contact cleaner in the motor area with it unplugged. And or follow up with some WD-40. Can't hurt. I just resurected 2old AC motors by doing the same. One didn't move at all, but buzzed. The other moved slowly.

Maybe take it to a Hitachi repair center. Make sure it isn't something simple before you spend some cash.
