Hello to everyone! Ok, so heres the deal. I've been doing detailng for over 10 years. I have the Dewalt 849, Flex 3401 & PE 14. This is on a 2000 Ford F-150. Its my work/toy truck which has been used and abused. Its been driven through the desert and the paint has been through a lot. Now the paint is thin and has lots of scratches. Im not worried about that. I was polishing, after claying of course, with the Flex 3401 with an orange pad from Chemical Guys. It was the HEX Logic pad seris. I was using Automagic BC-2 and CG opti polish 2.0. Different pad for each product. Both pads were primed as per Mr Philps instructions. After doing a pass with moderate pressure and wiping with a clean microfiber cloth I found that I had round scratches and the paint had pitted in spots. The round scratches are aprrox 1 1/2 in diameter and down to bare metal. The other pitted spots are random and throughout the area that was buffed. Any ideas what caused this? I've used a rotory for years and have never had this problem. I dont want to have this happen to any other cars. Thanks for any help!

That top photo looks like the markings left by the impact of the paint being hit by an egg. Has your truck ever been egged? I have seen this many times and when asking the customer the above question they almost always confirm that yes the car had been egged at one time.

Polishing can reveal defects you never realized you had.

i dont like to hijack the thread but i have the same problem and i have brand new paint. 4 months old.

Had the same markings from when my car was egged, also polishing can reveal defects that you may not have noticed.

Thanks so much for the responses everyone. I REALLY appreciate it. I forgot I did get egged with one egg by an ex gf but it wasn't on that spot. This was caused by the buffer. I'm 100% sure of it. Same with the peppering/white dots. Its as if something got on the pad and scratched it. No worries about the thread jacking, just looking fire ideas. It happened at other spots that were buffed as well. Strange stuff...maybe the paint was super thin and got taken off????

It looks like a failure in the primer to me. Can you pick chips off with your finger nail?

Its like someone took a hole puntcher to it. They don't flake off there just holes. What would cause it

I wonder if some of the white spots are actually surface ,and is hardened compound ?

sometimes I get surprized myself when I use a magnifyer to help me determine whats surface and whats not.

Coumpound or polish will fill in chips you never knew you had before also.

Have you ever polished this truck before?!?!?!? Could the chips have been touched up before you got the truck and the polishing removed it? This has happened to me before a long time ago on a friends black nissan..... removed tons of very nicely done touch up spots - came out with similar holes of course.

*then again they werent in a circular pattern like that - so maybe disregard my comment lol..... time to lay off the coffee*

pc7424 from meguiars, finishing pad from meg and m105. didnt do much with the sanding marks but left white dods all over the car and a few splotches too got 99% of the dodts out but have 1 big splotch on the hood that i have to touch up. got the cutting pad from lc and all the sanding scratches and more dots came out so i am on the right track and i am going to sand the splotch and repaint. what causes this so i can prevent it next time?
