That's why you don't polish sharp corners. On a PC on high speeds you will tear the pads to shreds, as well... you see.. :(

Never polish more than 10% off the pad corner. I usually let the pad stick out about 1" and that's it.

Sorry to hear what happened bud, hopefully it can be fixed.

How much of the pad was "hanging" over?

i would take that pad and punch it in the face!! shame on that pad!!!then throw it in the trash:mad:  bad pad very bad!!

That is one of my complaints with Edge pads. I scored a FLAT surface because the plastic insert that goes between the top and bottom pads on the Edge, broke. To this day (a year later), those scoring marks are the only dings of any kind on my 2006 Black Lexus SC430. Having somebody give you a free replacement pad doesn't quite make up for that.

When I saw the damage in your pictures,I thought you had gone nuts with a rotary.

Its a risk with all products, Ive seen backingplates blow up and have a rotary shred areas of paint in a split second. Ive seen a PC 4" pad burn a whole strip of paint near a window. Now this.

THere is no miracle product, but proper technique can minimize it. Im sorry for your inconvienience, but I have never seen edge pads mess up like your situation or this one untill now. This one was hit on a corner, but just on a flat surface shouldnt have happened. Are you sure the edge adapter wasnt screwed too far in? This could make the pad rub and go boom .

This was my friend polishing. His car his work, my pad. I feel worse about his car than the pad. I'll get the specifics as soon as I can. Breifly he said he was polishing normally, saw some blue and found this.

It happens. I am never in a rush when I polish, and I always take every precaution when polishing on high-speeds. Pad wasn't but 2" max off the side of a Jeep, flat surface , and it just happened, real quickly. Thank god I pulled off when I noticed I went to far, otherwise my pad would look like yours. :(

Do you have to pay for the damages?

So is the consensus was that he was polishing with too much pad hanging off the edge? He was doing the work, so I am not exactly responsible for the damages. I have been around a lot of that .1% chance that a PC can do harm. ;)

Can you please call to discuss? I just don't see how the pad was torn apart like that without some operator error and excessive pressure but I would like to know more about the situation.

Thanks,

That was going to be my response as well. It seems, to me, that there was a lot of pressure put onto the pad and the pad wasn't rotating. After a long period of time like this, the PC "jiggled" side to side enough enough to cause the tear where the pad was resting on the lip. This happened to be right on the opening for the adaptor, which was a weak spot on the pad, compared to a few inches on either side. The tear happened without the user knowing it, and continued polishing when the plastic caused the damage on the lip. Again this is just my speculation about the problem... Hope they can get it fixed.

Oh I am so sorry Ambrcrombie! I hope it gets fixed. I don't know enough to help you, but I feel bad for you, and I wish i could help. Keep us posted, ok? I bet Toto might know how to fix it? Or Kllr?

That is exactly why all this time I have hesitated on buy edge pads, I dont trust that plate in the middle.

I was not there to see exactly what happened, but this is almost EXACTLY what I imagine happened.

Aaron - I will see if he can call you. Again, it was just MY pad, so I don't know exactly what happened.

Killr - That post made me smile and not feel so bad about everything.
