Rupes mark ii or Griots the boss for buissness?

I'm in same boat as OP, trying to decide between the two. Is the above quote supposed to be links? If so they aren't working on my iPad or Mac, and I would like to see reviews like that.

No, just greater than less than symbols..
Mark II is greater than legacy
G21 is greater then legacy

Rupes 21MK2! Both are great and wonderful evolution of the big orbital movement.

That statement doesn't mean ####
Have you checked out streamers
Just about everything comes out of Italy and allot of them are junk

It's all about quality control
Theres plenty of quality products that cone out of China..its just China is most used due to being cheapest...so its a given they tend to come out with the most crap

Very true. Thanks for your input. I'm most like going with 21mm boss with 5 in plate.

:iagree: & well said...

I have the Rupes. I think its a great machine. Rupes makes everything in house for their tools including the motor. I would take a product built in a free society over one built in a communist country any day of the week.

Are we still talking about the tool or the fool? If we are discussing the tool, they are both comparable. As for where they are built, if that factors into your equation then fantastic.

When you put both machines to the paint they are almost identical. Griots has a lifetime warranty, Rupes is a tried and trusted machine.

I agree with this. Also, since people report either machine will do the job - why not support the company that pioneered large throw technology? Supporting Rupes also enables them to bring other innovative products to market like the iBrid.

I dunno - it seems like a no brainer to me.

Playing devils advocate here....

Then why not support the company that further innovated the concept and pushed Rupes to up their game? By that logic, we'd all still be using the PC because we'd want to support the company who pioneered the DA in the first place. (or whoever it was- you get the idea)

It is a valid reason- just not sure its one that I personally would use. I believe there are a lot more tangible factors that I would base my decision on.

If you want to give credit for the large throw, then give dynabrade the original credit...

Guys stop bickering over the machines, they both do the same identical thing its preference.

Its like comparing bottled water, there is no major difference its a bottle of water and it will quench your thirst regardless.

Same with the paint it will be swirl free and shiny no matter what.

Have you considered the system accessories that compliment these machines?

Both have a nice assortment of pads, and liquids that have been designed along side the machines.

I like that Griots offers some sort of wax in their system.

They also give the option of washer mods, and 5, or 6" plates, which shows that they're really listening to the end user, which is great.

I like the Rupes system myself, even though I only have the blue and yellow compounds and pads (foam and microfiber). But I can't take anything away from Griots. I love the videos they did with Jeff Brown. He did a great job presenting the system.

I recently had this comparison and choice to make as well and upon researching I couldn't find any real evidence of one outperforming the other. I chose a Griots Boss G15 kit (on sale from Autogeek) and here are the reasons why.

Three things that made it more appealing to me were:

-Price (Autogeek special for a Boss G15 polisher,5 pads of youru choice,1 flex pad,3 microfibers and a bottle of pad cleaner for $380 vs. $400 for just the Rupes Mk2 15 itself)
-Warranty (Lifetime warranty really stood out to me vs the 1 year offered by Rupes.)
-Comfort (At this point its only speculation as I haven't handled both units but the G15 is said to have a more comfortable body and grip)

I was really close to buying the Rupes Mk2 15 but just couldn't justify ruling out the three thins I just mentioned. Regardless i'm sure you'll be more than happy with whichever unit you end up going with.

Jeff Brown did such a great job at presenting the system cause he designed everything from the ground up ! And settled for nothing but the best, he is just as passionate as us and absolutely loves what he does.

Everything in the system is top notch from the pads the polishes, the machines, everything was taken into consideration and the Boss creams were held at high expectations to compete with the best and most popular on the market.

^ well said...

btw (not directed at anyone in specific), you might as well knock any PC-style DA that isn't a porter cable as well...

I often go back and review those videos. Hearing, and seeing Jeff go through the specifics, and showing some demos is actually a great tutorial, and reference for not just the Boss system, but for polishing in general.

I would love to see Rupes utilize Dylan, Todd, or Jason in a similar manner. It feels like there has been some confusion with the Rupes line, and it's intended usage ever since the washer mod phenomenon happened. I honestly didn't get to the hard specifics of their system until I got Mike Phillips' Rupes how to book, and his, and Todd Helme's postings.

But back to Jeff - I was overwhelmed by how good a job he did. I hope he got a raise for that!!

Rupes makes an annoying noise imo.

I wear ear plugs, but the GF says the Duetto is way louder than the PC, or 3401. Our living room is directly above the garage.

1. Nobody pushed Rupes to up their game but Rupes. They listened to customer feedback. The MK II was in development for over a year before the other machine came out.

2. The PC 7424 was not even designed for detailing. It was a tool meant for sanding wood, which was adapted for detailing by a few clever folks. PC has zero presence (or interest) in detailing or the detailing community.

People always bring up Griot's warranty as a major influence on their purchasing decision. But there is a ton of Rupes polishers out there, and issues with the machines is extremely rare.

I remember a few years ago when Chrysler and Hyundai were offering crazy longer power train warranties. Do you know why? Because the products were inferior and they were using it as an incentive to drive sales. To me, I'd take a BMW with a 3yr 36k warranty any day - opposed to a Chrysler with 7 yr 70k warranty.

Just saying... Rupes completely changed the DA polisher game with their system. Nobody here is bickering, I'm just expressing valid reasons why someone may choose this product. Now they are bringing out the IBrid - another game changer. If you think there aren't companies out there trying to reverse engineer that machine as we speak - think again.
