Can someone please take a pic of the washer out of the machine? Where has everyone gotten their's from that didnt order from Kevin Brown? Can I just use a washer from the back of a standard backing plate and cut the sides to fit?

Thanks guys

Wes--I've read that post by KB. From what I understood you need a 3/16 thickness washer and I thought he said he used a standard one goes between the a standard bp and a da. He just files it down to fit. Am I understanding this correctly?

Putting the washer will prevent the Rupes from stop spinning at least from i've heard. If you want unstoppable cutting ability, then a Rotary is the answer. No disrespect to the Rupes.:props:

I believe he does sand it. Notice its round in the first pic, then it becomes more oval shaped in the next. He also has sand paper in the pic. Get a normal 3/16 and sand down the two sides.

If you have any qualms about fabricating this mod yourself...

Try contacting Kevin Brown

I'd say: 'More than likely...He'll provide relief'.

I don't understand this, why are people going to a 3rd party for questions about the mod instead of going directly to the person that came up with the whole thing?

Oh and no disrespect intended on my last post :)

Would you please inform me of the person that originally came up with this washer-mod?

I'd like to give credit where credit is due.

Thanks.

You said it, Kevin Brown! I was just piggybacking off of your post, sorry.

Not to resurrect an old thread...but i just went to Home Depot today and bought a 7mm(well, pack of four...didnt sell in singles) flat washer, and it fit perfectly. No shaving or sanding required, and went right up to the edges of the slot in the backing plates. Works wonderfully.

I would be careful doing this if your just using a round 7mm washer. I tried the same thing and when buffing a car I noticed small metal shavings on the hood. Took the backing plate off and found that the metal washer was spinning and little pieces was coming off and the bolt was tight. I ending up just making one that was egg shaped like the opening. Just a heads up to be careful and watch for this.

Not as handy as I want to be. Just purchased a Rupes 15ES and want to do the washer mod.

I found this from local home depot:
H. Paulin | 3/16 Bs Brass Flat Washer | Home Depot Canada

Would this be the correct washer for it?

NO.

You want :

5/16" ID X 3/4" OD X 1/16" THICK

You can even make one out of these :
Lake Country Compression Washers 5-Pack

Yes its a plastic washer, but it works fine. I have one of them in my duetto and its never worn out. With a plastic washer its critical that the fit is perfect or on the tighter side so it does not have room to move around causing the edges to wear down.

I got a 7MM washer at my Ace Hardware that fit right in without modification. Couldn't be easier!
