I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent. After cleaning it today for the first time after the winter I noticed on both my rear doors in the area that sticks out around the rear wheel a ton of chips/scratches. The vehicle has a factory installed piece of rubber/plastic on the door in the general area. The chips are all around it and look like someone sandblasted that area of the door. There are some bigger chips I am going to attempt to touch up. The piece of rubber/plastic is very scuffed looking as well.
Can anyone tell me anything like polish or wax I can try to use that will lessen the appearance of the marks on the door and not remove all my touch up paint? When the area is wet they don't show up as much.

I bought this car used last fall and when I got it the dealer had it cleaned and I think waxed very nicely. There were marks then but now they seem more noticeable.

You hit the nail on the head with sandblasted because that is what you have. This is common on the 2K Bonnevilles as well. The condition comes from the road salt and sand hitting the body molding. I believe all you can do is repaint.

You might want to install mud flaps to prevent further damage.

Do you live is a state with a lot of snow and Ice and do you do a lot of freeway driving?

You might want to post a pic of the problem area.

Got the same deal on the lower section of the rear doors on my Rav4. Factory puts a small piece of glued on plastic to try and combat the problem. Way too small though since the whole area that flares back out gets pelted by salt spray and crap all winter long. I am considering taking it to one of those custom vinyl lettering places and having them cut me some larger decals to match my paint and just replace the factory ones with decals that will actually protect the whole area. Might do the same along the bottom the of the rockers too where the chinsy gravel guard is because that area picks up dirt and it is almost impossible to clean since it gets ground in and its not a smooth surface. Even claying doesn't seem to get the crud out of the paint and it has been waxed but to no avail.

Pat.

I don't have a pic right now. I do have mud flaps installed. Someone suggested to me to apply a good coat of wax as I can't afford to repaint the door right now. I can live with the marks being there as I know they were there when I bought it last fall. I just would like them to be not as noticeable.
I live in Ontario, Canada. I don't do very much highway driving at all, mostly just city driving. I have only put 5000 kms on since I purchased the car, I have 45,000 now total. That is why I believe most of the marks were already there.

Yup the marks were probably already there.

Keeping the area waxed does help but eventually it will happen.
