Wondering what life people are getting or expect from their sheepskin washmitt? Sadly, my Autogeek Sheepskin mitt has gone to wasmitt heaven seemingly prematurely. Was bought late October 07 and used only 5 times on my own car with Poorboys Super Slick & Suds Shampoo.

Reason I'm disappointed is this one was more expensive than others and I was expecting about 12 months out of it following the care instructions, rinse in clean bucket of water, squeeze and air dry on the line.

The pictures are the end result of my last wash a few days ago, it disintegrated in my hands whilst washing, as you can see the wool is 100% ok, the skin has just rotted.

Should I be asking for a replacement? What have I done wrong if anything? I love washing the car with this mitt, but I can't imagine needing to replace it after every couple of washes if this is the norm. They are not cheap. :(

I would be asking for a new one no doubt.

Me too!

I've been using sheepskin mitts from a different supplier, and they've been holding up great.

Also, make sure you hang them to dry out of the sun. If you can put them on a long plastic or wooden dowel to allow some air inside, it might help.

Do those sheepskin mitts have a leather lining? I have heard of the leather dry rotting on people how do not dry them properly. That could cause the mitt to fall apart.

Looks like that sheep had a skin condition!!!!!!! hahaha

jk.

Never seen a mitt do that after so few washes, or even after a few dozen for that matter.

Yes it does, the method I used to dry is to hang them on a clothes line which gets full sun. At the moment in Australia it is summer, so the temperature is very warm to hot most days and things dry quickly. I'm pretty pedantic with caring for my detailing tools like MF's, pads & applicators but never had a catastrophic failure like this.

At one stage I considered that it might dry quicker by turning inside out but I'm sure that wouldn't be good for the mitt. Thing is this mitt was in one piece until I started washing with it, couldn't believe how badly it disentegrated in my hands. I would get another one if there is a way to successfully dry them, hair dryer maybe? Seems a lot of work to do this.

Heavy water restrictions here mean I wash my car monthly, I got very little from this mitt, sadly.

Send me your order number, we will replace that one. They last much longer than that, just email me your info and I will send one out to you Monday.

there seems to be no reason to this, as I have some the died after several washes and others that last for months. I went back to MF towels and chenille for better longevity.

Ok, will do thanks for your support. :)

That's why I switched to Shmitt. :buffing:
It will last 100-150 washes minimum.

This is part of the reason I buy all my products from AG-awsome customer service!

Normally I just place mine in front of a fan on high with the cuff open to allow air inside. I've had my sheepskin for over a year with zero problems (different vendor).

Thanks to Meghan and Autogeek I've received the replacement Sheepskin mitt in quick time all the way down here to Australia.

For sure... AG will take care of you. On another note...

A lot of the Sheepskin used in mitts comes from Australia... doesn't it? One would think that you would be able to pick up the best mitts down there easier than us back here in the states. :D

It's strange I know but I've never been able to find a proper sheepskin mitt here in oz, plenty of synthetic and lambswool mitts but proper sheepskin is like hens teeth.

if I may ask, what is the difference between the sheepskin wool, and the lambskin wool mits--
** besides the animal it came from ???

A sheep is one year old or more. A lamb is less than a year old. :D

One would think that the lambswool would be softer????????

Just a small update. I've managed to find a good solution that dries the sheepskin washmitt much more quickly and conveniently. I've just bent a wire coat hanger into a shape that opens up the mitt from the inside to allow the inner skin to dry more quickly. Just hang it on the clothes via coat hanger hook, simple and effective. :)

This a great idea and I used it today.
