Shop? Mobile? Or both?

I always just told them I was going to beat the #### out of them if I caught them stealing. That works too

You sound like a scary guy Flash!!! Preventative measures may work better I think, like give your guys a fruit basket here and there or a gift card to Hobby Lobby. I just pictured a man beating his dog when you said that lol!

I would say $50 is a bit much - my personal opinion. I have only used a generator once since last summer! That one time was for an aircraft that was chocked far away from the FBO. Everytime I have gone to someone's home or workplace they have power there and are actually very helpful. 99% of the time they ask me if I need anything and are genuine about it. The water tank cost is foreign to me. I only do dry washes because that is how I have done them for 13 years. I figure this - you have to dry the vehicle anyway after pressure washing them down - so why not do it in one step?!?!? I hit a panel at a time with a GREAT cleaner/wax spray (very expensive, but worth it to me). Everyone is amazed by this product cause it last for about a month.

Takes me roughly 1 hour by myself to hand clean a vehicle and vacuum it out.
*Spray Panel/Panels , then with 2 MF's go to town on sprayed panels.
Simple and effective for me.

So when it comes to charging that much extra, I would say it is a bit much. BUT - you did say that you don't fully NEED the mobile service and that there is no one else around doing it - so maybe it is ok to charge that much. One thing I always think to myself, "You can always go down in price, but never up" So maybe start with $50 - if there are no bites, then drop it to $25.

Hope this helps?!?!?!??!

Thanks for asking if I saw this...cause I definitely didn't, ha.

I agree with you. I think that I will just set it up at $50. Around here...detailing tends to be pricey I think. Cause there's not many places doing it. The main reason I think I could get $50 is that there's a shop here that I sort of compete with that gets probably $50 to $75 more than me. Mainly because he sells a lot of import cars. So I figure I can say...you could get our mobile service for the same price as his shop rate! I'll try it, ha.

One thing I've heard a lot from mobile detailers. Is that a lot of them regret not charging more from the beginning cause they've come to find out that their customers aren't worried about the price. They just don't wanna have to leave the house! Like you said...you can go down, but not up! Even though...I went up this year. SHhhhhhh :dblthumb2: Thanks again man.

You would be better off paying a 50% commision on all work preformed by them IMO
Something tells me you tend to not see the bright side of things.

Of course theres some interaction dude. Yes, they need to get the keys, and yes they take payment.

I really don't get where you're going with this...

No, they can not say...we'll do the work cheaper. That makes no sense. They would have to use my equipment. If my equipment is out of the shop...it's making ME money. Obviously if they're gone all day, and come back with less money than I scheduled. There's something up. I have set rates. I know what they'll be bringing back. It's not rocket science.

Something tells me that if you worked for me...then maybe I'd have to worry. Not these guys.

I think this forum is gonna kill my school grades this semester!!! Spending way to much time on it!!!!!

I have learned quite a bit already though within the past week - saved over 500 bucks on a vapor steam system that I will be purchasing with comments people made already! Paying for itself already!

Yeah, there's a ton to learn off this site for sure. I've picked up quite a few tips and tricks here and there. Lots of products I'd like to give a try too.

I ordered a Meguiars porter cable package, got an Aztec extractor, and some supplies. I've always done all my work with the Makita rotary. But now, having the orbital to apply wax and sealant should be nice. RV's should be easier too!

What do you think about this?!?!?!? Not a joke!!! I have an opportunity to start a B & B in Nairobi Kenya lol! Been asked about it! Would be crazy to go international before I tackle Nashville right?!?!?!

If you pay your employees a 50% commision on all the cars they complete, this will increase productivity and your bottom line. It will also make them feel more like a part of the company rather then an hourly wash jockey IMO

Something tells me you tend to not see the bright side of things.

Why would you say something like this

Of course theres some interaction dude. Yes, they need to get the keys, and yes they take payment.

Then that comment you made earlier about your employees having no interaction with the customers was not truthful? I'm confused

I really don't get where you're going with this...

Just trying to keep you from making a mistake. Thats all

All they have to do is purchase their own stuff. Its not that expensive. Then, all they have to do is pass a card to your customer and tell them next time they will do it for less. Its quite simple really. Happens all the time in every kinda business

Something tells me that if you worked for me...then maybe I'd have to worry.
Uhhh, you'll never have to worry about that. I've forgotten more about this business then most will ever know

This conversation is pointless. No matter what I say...you just try to flip it. There's a reason I chose these people to run my mobile unit. They've worked for me for years, and have a lot of respect for the job, and my business. Whether or not you believe that...really doesn't change a thing. If you don't have people you trust involved in your business with you...then I feel sorry for your situation. Fortunately...I do. Luckily, I don't have to threaten to "beat the #### out of them" just to get them to not steal from me.

There's risk involved in anything. But, sometimes a little trust pays off in the end. If it doesn't...I'm not losing a thing anyways. I'll be just fine. Thanks for your concern.

Kenya? That may be tough, ha.

You talking about moving there? Cause that would be nuts, ha.

Thank you.

NO! But it is well developed from what I hear - so why not. To me it would be like starting a business in our early 90's with crazy potential to grow. But - exchange rates, hostile take overs lol, and not being there all the time could be a huge issue. On the other hand - good telecommunications could make it very possible to do. Conferences over the computer, international phone packages, etc.

I guess it all just depends on what you have to put into it. I wouldn't risk much money that's for sure. That's so far away, ha.

It would be a huge risk and a large amount of trust and leeway provided on my part. I think I fear it because I haven't been there and don't know the people. But I may try and take a trip out there and give it a shot. I could always use Flashes method of "Don't steal or I'll beat the ***** out of ya" lol! Or it may be an oppurtunity to change lives and offer jobs to those that need it?!??!

An airline contract here is like hitting the lottery - 250,000 + a year at one location. Sounds like I would be able to dominate the airport there!

It's risky. But it might pay off. I wish I had better advice, ha. That's a tough decision man. I would definitely fly out and check out the situation. It may change your mind one way or another.

Sorry - threw your thread off mark..... coffee has jacked me up and made me spill the beans excessively. :hungry:
