Should I clay...new Audi

I am waiting on my 2012 Nissan 370z i pre ordered., i told the dealers "detailing" department not to even look at it (plus i gave it to the manager in writing). I was told they have to take the paper off to inspect it at the dealer once it gets there for defects, no problem though, i'll be there once it' s unloaded off the truck anyway. I will be claying her once she's home, if defect free, i'll use Prima Amigo, no lsp yet, tape her (painters tape of course) mirrors, hood , and side panels for the trip to get her clear bra. This will be my first time ever having a clear bra, i'm only getting the necessary sections done, want to make sure i have plenty of paint to play with.Im the MAN

Yes Clay a new Audi. Having sold Audi for about 15 years they come with rail dust a lot from the shipment from the factory to the port in Germany or with TT Hungary. Audi even recommends the dealers clay the car before delivery to the client. If they see the rail dust. The rail dust is there though. They put the plastic on at the German Port and the leaves some adhesive that claying will help with, And as a previous poster said takes about a half hour and you now it will be prepped right for what you have to do. You will love the car. I have had over 15 of them through the years.

Tell the dealer not to touch it!!! Clay (get a bottle of Dodo Juice born slippy if marring is a concern), Iron X and then apply coating...good luck, and remember to take some pics!

Just use a mild clay. If it does need clay...it won't need much. Just throw a glove on and feel around.

Zaino orange and mothers yellow clay are both very mild and should not marr. Use lots of lube with.

I have some Meguiars white clay but I'm thinking about trying the Ultima Elastrofoam Kit (expensive) or order the cheaper Hi Tech Sponge. Looks like a much easier and quicker way to clay. I told my SA that I didn't wan't anyone touching the paint. I don't want someone drying my car with a shop rag. His reply is there detailers are pretty good and want's my car to look good when I pick it up. His words "no cheater wax".

I'm surprised they wrap the cars at the port and not the factory. Seems to defeat the purpose if they ship by rail with no protection.

I have both the Elastofoam (just bought another two on BOGO) and the Hi-Tech sponge. I love the Elastofoam. I haven't use the Hi-Tech yet. Can't imagine wanting to use clay.

What about using Ultima Elastrofoam Paint Cleaning System, paint cleaner, paint cleaning foam instead of clay?

  • Ultima Elastrofoam Paint Cleaning System is a revolutionary replacement for automotive detailing clay products. It removes bonded contamination from paint, glass, chrome and plastic without the abrasive effects of harsh polishes or the inconvenience of detailing clay.

  • The Ultima Elastrofoam Paint Cleaning System quickly smoothes your paint to an ultra-slick and bright finish, preparing it for polishing and sealing.
Anyone with experience using this?

I have been using the Ulitma Elastrofoam. It is a bit different than the WG clay I have used in the past. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it. I really like it so far...

I have a surplus of Elastofoam. I would like to trade for some Permanon

They are worried about CSI Customer Satisfaction. Most Salespeople today their pay plan is a large part based on CSI. I have had some dealers tell me up to 50% of it is based on CSI. And part of the CSI score is clean at delivery. It is a big part of the score. Just do it yourself and tell the Brand Specialist that you will take care of him on the CSI. There are good detailers at dealers unlike what some people think. But it is always best to do it yourself. I have gotten to the point that CSI is so big I detail a lot of my own deliveries now. When I prep my own deliveries I use Optimum, Blackfire and Megs.
