i just ordered some stuff from autogeek, including a PC 7424xp, but now im reading that the GG is more powerful and spins better under pressure. should i call and change my order to a GG 6" instead of the PC? im assuming its similarily safe against burning paint, but i do have some rotary experience so im not worried about that.

also, will backing plates for the PC fit on the GG? i want to use the 3.5" backing plate for headlight restoration and getting into tighter areas.

is it just as reliable as the pc? ill be using on customers cars so i need a DA thats reliable...

and last quesiton i swear:P... should i stick witht he 6" backing plate with 6.5" pads or put on a 5" backing plate and use 5.5" pads? (for better spinning)

thanks for your replies

i would -has more power-you may want to check on the backing plate that comes with the gg.it might be a 6 inch so i would get a 5 inch bp from megs so you could use the da microfiber system down the road

I would. That GG is really nice. I still love my old PC, but, the Griots is a definite step above.

Just as safe.

It does come with 6 in plate. They are compatible with the other BPs. I would get the 5 inch and the 3in. You would be ready for the Megs DA MF pads.

If you simply want more cutting power i would just stay with the xp and get surbuf pad or megs da mf system..

The extra power is nice but it's a da to da (non flex) exchange imo the excitement isnt going to last long...

The xp is reliable not to mention it's made in the US (cmiiw) a rarity nowadays

Why would anyone order a PC in the first place, when the Griots is avalible?

So, my answer is yes. Do it with the quickness :dblthumb2:

I've used all 3 DA's extensively and they will all get the job done, the PC does have the best build quality and with 5.5" thin pads when holding the pad flat you're not going to have any problems doing correction work.

Heck, hundreds of thousands of cars have been de-swirled using the first generation PC's with thicker and larger pads so take my word for it, with the right pads, products and good technique, the PC can and will tackle the majority of anything that comes your way.

See the below article as it has pictures of the pads and the backing plates plus links to the store for more specific information about each...

This one is good too...

I have the original PC and it bogged down easy with foam pads..now when i started using the MF pads being much thinner the PC worked much better..but my car has some curves on it that with ANY pressure at all would make it stop rotating..So i ordered a GG on friday from the sale and hope that the more powerful motor helps..also I think the bale handle is more comfortable to use compared to the stick or none.

Maybe it's just me, but I have both and I like the PCXP better then the Griots. I have no problem with 5.5" pads and the PC has a better "feel" to it. I also prefer the stick handle to the bale handle. Maybe I just don't like change, as I had used my original PC for years and got used to it. Now I pretty much use it to apply wax/sealants.

But the Flex is a whole different game, I love My Flex!

just called in and swapped my pc for the gg:P i got the drill adaptor and a 2 backing plate to use pads on my drill just in case the gg fries

o5x the gg will do the same thing I'm afraid . u would have to get the flex to help u with that

Already have a flex..not using the MF system on the flex..i dont expect it to never bog down but being a good bit more power it should be able to keep going before it stalls like my PC does.

Negative. The GG has much more power than the original PC, and will not bog down *as easily* on curves.

With the right pads, the PC is an awesome polisher...its all in the pad selection and I would not swap out a polisher just because some other model has more power. The PC in my view is built like a tank and will last for many years.

I just replied to a thread where I said that I originally hated my PC because it shipped as a kit with 6.5" pads. I was a newbie to machine polishing and just assumed the kit was designed for best performance. What did I know?

Its all in the pads when it comes to the PC...and now you have the new Meg's MF DA system...there is no longer any reason to think you can't get awesome performance out of a PC.

not when you have some compound angles on the car..some parts of my car even with the MF pads if a fly lands on the PC its to much pressure and just stalls..i have to back off so much to get the pad to spin again that its almost not even touching the paint. Times like that i wanted to throw my PC against the wall.

what size pads are you using?

i hear it bogs down easily with the 6.5", if you havent already tried the 5.5" id give it a go
