I’m at the emergency veterinary clinic

Someone ran over my sons dog and fled the scene

She’s really bad and I could use all the prayers and support you can muster

Stopped for a mid walk drink, but there was a noise that got their attention, this shot shows Buster's size advantage over Ziva, even though they're from the same litter.

Rocky had a visit to the vet for a check up and a couple of blood tests. He was so unimpressed he dropped a poop on their scales, I don't know if his 5.07kg included the poop or not.

I'm sorry to read that, I've been in that situation myself and it makes me sad just thinking about it.

My little boy snuck out while no one was looking, spent the whole day missing until he was hit by a car. The driver didn't stop, thankfully someone watched it happen and tried to catch him but instead followed him while her husband called the local ranger. It's hard to explain this, but the good samaritan had got my details from the ranger, then phoned to inform me the address he had entered..................................................my front garden. I was at the Vet till about 10pm, he had broken a hind leg and ripped one of his claws out. It was ne of the worst days of my life and its making me emotional writing about 5 years down the track.

The really strange thing is, that same lady was one of the on-call nurses that was helping me recover from surgery late last year. I actually apologized for being rather incoherent that day, I was a complete mess after being stressed out over where he had gone, how frightened he would have been, then to see him bleeding and helpless.

Been there and done that and fully understand

As of very late last night the pup was out of surgery and “doing as well as can be expected, but she’s not out of the woods yet”

Pretty standard noncommittal response

Fingers still tightly crossed

Coffee for now and watching my two critters play fighting

I just checked messages and they had to take one rear leg, it was so badly broken they said it would be impossible for anyone in the area to fix it

Odd it didn't show up on the X Rays

I don't know anything further as of now

I called the vet clinic like they told me but they were doing shift change and reporting so couldn't talk to me

I am going to leave it with my son and let him talk to them, just so they don't get hit from multiple sides

Not that is matters but we walked out of that place $8,000 poorer last night, and that was just the deposit they secured

My son could never have afforded it, luckily we have the resources

Yes, veterinary costs are not cheap.

When Faych was hit, it was during the beginning stages of Covid restrictions, which made the whole situation even harder. By the time we got him to the Vet, it was about 7 pm and effectively an afterhours service, which meant more $$$$. It also meant the on-call Vet needed me to be the nurse during the assessment and x-rays. Frankly, I much preffered that than sitting in the waiting room, at least I was there with him. The hardest part was leaving him there overnight by himself as the surgery was not staffed overnight. He had spent the day lost and afraid, then he found us again, then got left alone in a strange place wrapped in bandages and connected to a drip. That broke my heart.

From there, he needed specialist surgery out of town, which as I'm sure you can guess, was extremely expensive. Likewise the months of recovery and follow-up visits to the vet.

I'm extremely grateful for the on-call Vet that night, she gave up her Friday night to save my best friends life. I'm also thankful that it was her on call, she had been treating Faych for epilepsy for many years anyway, so I felt like we were in safe hands.

I can only imagine what all that cost, Rocky's 30 minute visit yesterday cost nearly $700, with some more joint supplements for Buster at $105. But we got the all clear for Rocky today, his cholesterol is up slightly, but all other functions are normal, and there's no trace of the Cryptococcus infection he had, but we still have to do another blood test in a month, for confirmation. Overall they said he's in good condition for a 10 year old cat.

My neighbour in the house behind us has a golden retriever with bad knee and hip joints, he was told the operation to correct it would cost almost $20k, he's got pet insurance so he would only be out of pocket about $4k. So far monthly injections and joint supplements, the same ones Buster is on, means he has avoided the surgery, Sunny is more mobile and relatively pain free, and Sunny is only around 3 years old.
