Did some preliminary searches but up empty for how to deal with this so here it is. My back (tinted and heated) window on my black XC-90 was smashed out sometime last night. The bag that they probably thought was a laptop bag was just 'fragrant' gym clothes (small victory). My wife generously handled the repair process and by 11am this morning it was replaced. On to my questions? Given my paint is very soft I am thinking of dousing it with heavy amounts of water followed up with probably a heavily concentrated Waterless Wash or Rinseless Wash. Then rinse and dry.

Secondly it was raining last night and so the back compartment is soaking wet. I was thinking of taking my MF and laying them down with some small weight to absorb the water. I don't have a wet vac so need to go manual on this one.

Are there any other suggested courses of action? I assume I will say good bye to all MF I use for the process. Thanks!

I'd leave the back open to get air thru it so it doesn't mildew/mold (when outside is dry of course)

Put drying cloths below the MF this will still allow them to absorb water and will let you wash them after a good wring out?
Or use cat litter again on a cloth to make it easy to lift out. Then a humidifier to finish.

Thanks. Hadn't thought of Kitty Litter. Thought about rice though.

Thanks. It is tricky because it is supposed to rain for the next few days.

I'd go to the car wash and use the quarter vacuum machines to suck up any heavy areas, then I'd lay down some towels and put in a box fan. After it dried up I'd sprinkle some baking soda and let sit overnight or so and then go back to the quarter vacuum

Bath towels if you have any that getting old.

Make sure to check under where the spare tire sits if you have one.

And I know a lot of those quarter vacs have a warning on them about electrical shock and using them to suck up water.

Irv - I'm I'm reading this right, just the rear trunk got wet right ?
I just googled pics for the rear trunk.
You should be fine, assuming you have done the steps in the replies already.

I was concerned if you had *insulation* in that area. That foam soaks up ALOT of water - hidden, and that is one pesky stuff for mold and stuff.
If you do have that underneath your floorboard, I would make sure to pull it up....and dry it out. Based on google pics though, it looks like it's just sheetmetal under that floorboard

Some really helpful suggestions.

Once you believe you've gotten all large stuff out of the way, you might want to look into some form of moisture absorber:

Very easy to use and available at HD and other hardware stores. Leave a tub in the vehicle and check it daily. Dump captured liquid out and check it periodically for the next few days until you don't feel the need for it anymore.

That warning has more to do with them not wanting to have to clean up the wet muddy mess inside the canister than anyone electrocuting themselves...

Trust me, I stop by and use their quarter vacs everytime we get significant rainfall, which has been quite often this winter.

IIRC the XC90 has the battery back there as well. You might want to check that compartment although it probably has a drain hole in it.

Yes it is mostly sheet metal below. There are some foam pads which I had to dry out as well. The rain has been heavy since that day.

Thanks - did see that but was a bit hesitant to unfasten it.
