so confused

First :welcome:

If I may offer a suggestion. There are many great products available from AutoGeek, and you can go the route of specific products from one vendor or mix vendor's products (that's what I normally do). The most important lesson for me was to keep it simple. We all have experiences and bias towards products, so don't over complicate things.

The Megs twins are a great 1-2 punch. A little learning curve but good stuff.
In my hands, the WG DGPS and FG3.0 (Menz abrasives) might finish a tad better that 205 but that's a qualified might.
I really like the Opt polishes and Compounds. Super easy to use however I needed to move to Megs M105 or Ultimate Compound when WG TSR didn't cut enough.
Some of the forum members like PoorBoy polishes because they work in direct sun.
I own the Porter Cable PCXP but many like the Griot's ROP for it's higher power. They are both good tools but I don't plan to replace my PCXP with the Griot ROP. In any case, get the 5.5" pads and Richard is probably right about the HydroTech pads.

I really like WG DGPS3.0 as a sealant and I like Fuzion as a paste wax. I love Optimum Car Wax (OCW) as a spray wax and it works very well as a stand alone option. Fuzion is incredibly expensive, but a very nice wax. MaxWax is sort of a poor man's fuzion. I have not used the Collinite waxes, but it's my kind of wax with reported excellent durabiity and a great finish for not much money.

I use a fine clay and the clay dilution of Optimum No Rinse (ONR) but you can find Megs or Mother's clay kits for about $20 which work fine for most vehicles. You have lots of choices but after you wash your car, slip you hand into a plastic baggie and feel you paint. The Plastic bag will enhance your feeling of the paint, so if you feel grittiness on the paint, the clay will help remove it.

Don't worry too much about asking questions. We're here to help. We all continue to learn even after detailing cars for many years, and I personally learn new things that challenge my way of looking at products and issues.

Good Luck!

Flex 3401 "forced rotation" DA and 6.5" pads for polishing large surface areas.
Griot's Garage "traditional" DA, 3.5" backing plate, and 4" pads for polishing smaller areas.
Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Meguairs Ultimate Polish(good combo for a beginner)
Menzerna Top Inspection to check your polishing results, or for cleaning the paint before you apply a wax or sealant. I'm opposed to IPA(no matter how low the concentration) as I feel it will soften and marr paint.

what i ment by the money commment was short of $1000 i am game, i like to work with the best equipment that way i dont buy the stuff twice and spend half again as much as i would have to start with.matt

Welcome Matt!!
I was in your place about 3 months, and we think the same. I'll spend top dollar to get the right equipment the first time, and not buy "the beginner" edition IMO. So I took the advice of some senior members and purchased the Flex 3401 and all the bells and whistles. I have detailed enough vehicles to pay off all the materials, and now it's all profit. The products sold on AutoGeek are truly quality products and reduce the amount of work/time it takes for detailing/paint correction. My advice to you.... Get a Flex 3401.....:props:

fairlady350z how do you like the poorboys products on your red car, i have a pair fo red trucks and was looking at thier product line for wax and maybe a sealant.
thanks
matt

I like it a lot. They can be applied and removed with ease. For the price, I don't think the sealant and nattys can be beat.

Matt,

Make sure you ask for 5.5" pads instead of 6.5" pads with the Porter Cable Kit. This is very important!

You don't need the polishin' pal kit, IMO. Clay by hand, not using the polishin' pal. You can feel the paint surface better by hand, and you won't have to pull the clay off the disc every time you need to knead the clay. Pick up DP Universal Clay Bar and DP Clay Bar Lubricant currently offered on "buy one, get one free". :dblthumb2:

Natty's blue paste will look great on your red trucks, but it's not designed for light colors like silver.

I would add ONR if they didn't throw it in the PC kit. You can use it as clay lube, quick detailer, rinseless wash
BTW. You will be tested on the abbreviations.:xyxthumbs:

i would love to be able to do such a thing as you mention BIG AL3, but the fact is i just dont know enought to even consider that. that is the reason behind this posting, as i tried very hard to not post this and sound like a newbie( which i am) but in the end there was just no way around it. I did try that two or three times but always wound up by doubles of products with different names.
matt

if you don't already own a DA, there are some great choices to choose from such as the GG6, PC7424XP, G110V2. i would opt for the GG6 (nice warranty) and it already comes with a 6" backing plate so you can use 6.5" pads and i would also pick up a 3.5" and 5" DA backing plate as well so you can use 4"- 5.5" pads as well. to start pick up at least 3-4 orange/white pads and a few black/blue as well. both M105/205 come in 8oz bottles so you can try them out and see if they work out for you before commiting to a bigger size...
