So How Do YOU ONR?

Grout sponge are 2 dollar each or 10 dollars for six. Cutting them shouldn't take more then a few minutes. I will post some pics up when I get a chance to pick one up.

Sometimes cutting soft materials like that can be either easy or difficult. Have you done it before? It would be cool to have a picture of the finished product!

use a serrated bread knife to do the cutting and you are golden...

nite nite

It should be easy because the sponge is dense and with a sharp razor, it should cut without problem.

I have used various sponges and mitts but keep going back to a microfiber towel for my ONR wash routine. I have grit sponges , Opti-mitt,Meguiars mitt and a new Chenille mitt but putting my fat fingered hand into a mitt doesn't feel right to me nor am I comfortable with a sponge. I have settled for a Eurrow shag towel and switch up after a couple of panels or so. Three or four for a normal sedan does the trick. Wish AG would pick up this line of towels.

Looks like AG might have something comparable. Have you seen the new Chinchilla Microfiber

From what I understand, they have a really long nap. Hopefully, AG will get some in stock soon.

Awesome read, good to see the different methods since I've never used ONR before.

Do you guys use ONR for every wash? Or go with a more traditional wash when it gets really dirty?

I use to do traditional wash on my car all the time. Now since new products are coming out, I been using waterless wash a lot. I think I'm going stick with waterless and ONR for in-between washes. Maybe for every traditional wash, 4 waterless or ONR. I have read people used pressure washer to get most of the dirt off the car before waterless or ONR.

Since I started ONR I tend to wash more often because it is sooo easy and quick. Also great for cold weather since I stay in garage with warm water. When you have caked on stuff you want a traditional wash.

Two bucket system is a must. I never thought I would love ONR as much as I do. I figured I would use regular car wash mostly. But now I find myself using ONR. I also thought it would definitely introduce swirls and marring into paint... I was wrong.

For super light soil you can use ONR in a spray bottle and wipe with MF. I use Ultima Waterless Wash for that.

It is kind of addicting. I didn't like traditional washes because it takes longer. Now, I love using ONR all the time.

When maintaining your car with ONR, do you guys spray wax after?

When maintaining your car with ONR, do you guys spray wax after?

No need. The new ONR, second generation, has man made polymers that protect the car. I have done ONR washes on unwaxed cars(I used dawn dish soap before onr, or sprayed down with apc). A fresh waxed gloss is left behind. It beads for 2 weeks or so. ONR is its own protection.

Nice didn't know new ONR leaves some protection on paint. Will pick up a gallon soon. :props:

Ya get the gallon. I was so happy I did. ONR makes great clay lube, cleans windows, interior wipe down, cleans wheels(not baked on break dust, but will clean up a track day or any waxed wheels no problem.)

I am not a fan of the waterless washes. I perfer the california duster to touch up the car inbetween weekly washes. I Also don't like using MF towels to wash. they get so dirty and don't let go of the dirt. i just use sponges and toss them in the washing machine. ONR is detailing made easy.

I use to pre rinse ONR, then do an ONR wipe down. I find it doesn't really help, unless you have bird pop and tree sap. I also find you don't need a pressure washer or even to pre-rinse with a hose...unless you have caked on mud.

ONR safe for interior cleaning, how about leather?

New leather or old leather? The thing about leather is that now a days they put the equivalent of clear coat on it. leather seats simply won't absorbed anything. dry putting a single drop of water on your leather seat....wait 30 mins, and see if the drop decreases at all. People spend money on leather conditioner and leather wax without realizing that nothing is being absorbed. all you need to do is keep leather clean.

ORN is good for a wipe down of leather, spilled coffee or whatever and it picks it up with a mf towel. i prefer apc 1:15 and a soft brush to clean leather, then a wipedown with a mf cloth. ONR isn't a deep cleaner or a degreaser by any means.

I usually use 1:3 OPC for leather. Going to cut it down dilution because my car interior is always clean. I rarely eat in my car and only water..... after a can of soda exploded in my car.

My method:

  1. Pre-rinse with foam gun to remove any dust or loose grit on the car, then rinse off with water in a strong jet. When this done, the only dirt left on the car should be road film. I may skip this step if the car isn't too dirty (i.e., no rain during the week).
  2. Pre-soak panel with visible road film/dirt specks (usually the lower panels) using UWW+. This step is skipped if not needed.
  3. ONR wash using chenille wash mitt.
  4. Dry panel using electric blower and waffle-weave (I only use the towel on the glass and the roof, which is the largest panel).
  5. Clean wheels, wheel wells and tires using left-over solution.
  6. Done!

I use one bucket, with a DIY grit guard - since I do a pre-rinse, I'm not too worried about loose grit in the bucket. I use anywhere from 5 to 7 liters of water (1.3 to 1.8 gallons), mixed with ONR at a 1:250 ratio (all of our measuring cups are in ml over here, so easier to round it to 250 :)). I've used an MF-covered sponge (similar to the Bone), the LC grout sponge, MF towels, and prefer using MF chenille mitts - though I don't wear the mitt, using it more like a pad, and I use two, one for the upper panels and a second one for lower panels.

I recently tried mixing an amount of OCW equal to that of the ONR in the wash solution - however, I didn't really notice any difference in the finish left (maybe just the tiniest bit slicker than usual), and the solution felt less lubricated than normal. I'll give it another go, so if I still get the same results.

I run through a touchless wash then i use 1 bucket 3oz of water and 2oz of ONR and I tend to rinse my mf mitt off with the water hose takes a bit longer to wash car but ensures all dirt is gone or i use another bucket w a grit guard and water. I use a waffle weave to dry the car.

I am about to purchase the opti mitt but am hearing good things about LC blue cude may get both to see how they work.

I guess maybe I'm crazy, but I just bust out the garden hose and wash like normal all winter long. I must be part Eskimo, though.:xyxthumbs:
