So How Do YOU ONR?

I guess maybe I'm crazy, but I just bust out the garden hose and wash like normal all winter long. I must be part Eskimo, though.:xyxthumbs:

What are your low temps durring winter? Around here it can get to -10 to -20F with wind chills in the -50 range.

Same here. You would end up with a ice covered car sitting on a pad of ice. ONR or CG's Eco wash here or for filthy cars it's a trip to the quarter car wash and use their heated water to knock off the salt , mud etc.

Same temps are experienced here....If it's -10 to -20 out I'm not doing any sort of wash....rinseless or rinsed. That's just too damn cold. I like my paint, but I like bloodflow to my extremities more. Every few weeks we will get a "warm" spell where I can sneak in a wash and dry before it freezes.

What's is the dilution ratio you're using for the pre-soak?

I have been using it at the QD ratio. It's about 1/2 oz. ONR to 32 oz of water as others have already mentioned. I have thought about bumping the 1/2 oz. up some to see if it helps break down the grime some.

I have 2 wash media I prefer......

1) Meguiars Microfiber Mitt I really like for when the car is not too dirty. I prespray lightly with ONR mixed at 1 oz./32 oz.

2) I like the microfiber chenille mitts for when the car is much dirtier. If the lower panels are really bad, I will take some APC, spray them down, then use my low pressure garden sprayer to wash off the APC and most of the dirt. Then I liberally pre-spray the panel with ONR at 1 oz/32 oz.

I always use one bucket with no grit guard with about 3 gallons of water and 3 oz of ONR.

Usually I do not need a second bucket as the one bucket is sufficient but if the car is REALLY dirty I will add a rinse bucket just so I don't have to change out my ONR solution.

Observation: ONR likes to attract the dirt into the microfiber and sort of keep it there until you wash it. However, if you pre-spray the panel, the microfiber mitt will not stain like it normally would and all of the dirt will run out of it.

So your wash media is a MF towel?
yes so I dont scratch my paint..I had the LC grout sponge but it scratched up my paint and I threw it away..I can only use my rolled edge MF or other good MF to dry as well..Cobra waffle weave towels scratch my paint as well.

1/2 oz to 32 oz water is the clay lube ratio (1:64); the QD ratio is 1:16, or 2 oz ONR for 32 oz water.

  • Add 2 ounces of No Rinse Wash & Shine to a gallon of water to make a super-slick clay bar lubricant. Wet the surface of your vehicle to provide a slippery protective layer beneath Opti-clay. After you’ve clayed each section, simply wipe it dry. This solution is as effective as any clay lubricant you can buy!
  • Add 8 ounces of No Rinse Wash & Shine to a gallon of water to make an excellent quick detailer. Fill up a spray bottle with this mixture and use it to clean and shine your vehicle, just as you would use a traditional detailer. The proprietary polymers bond to the paint surface to protect it from abrasion and micro-marring as you clean. The incredible formula leaves your vehicle extremely slick and glossy, like you just applied wax!

I have used approx 10-15 times now and has held up. I also rinse often and don't use much pressure.

It is only $5.99. I would still buy if it only lasted 5-10 times. I feel like it really protects the paint because I can get the soil out easily. I have used it on fairly dirty vehicles and when you rinse often, using two bucket method, it really is safe on the paint.

I also tend to use more ONR because I rinse often and the sponge picks up quite a bit of ONR. Of course that is an advantage IMO because it makes it super safe.

I agree, I also use the LC sponge for ONR washes and it works great! But it does hold a LOT more ONR solution so I tend to use about 4 gallons of ONR solution

  • 4 gallons for ONR solution with Grit Guard
  • 1 bucket 4 gallons rinse water, Grit Guard
  • LC blue grout sponge
  • UWW+ presoak on lower panels
  • Cobra Guzzler HD
  • regular Cobra Guzzler

Did they by chance change the paint used from 10 to 11 on mustangs. I have a 2011 black mustang. Cause my paint I don't feel is soft. My waffle weaves don't harm my paint.

very interesting!!! Because I'm in the paranoid stage, I use grit guards in my wash and rinse bucket. The other two buckets don't have grit guards in em.

How many ounces of ONR are you using for 3 gallons?
Alex, I use a ProPortioner set to 1.5 oz. in a quart bottle of ONR. I add it to 3 gallons water. IME more isnt better. I presoak the vehicle with UWW+ in a 2 gallon garden sprayer . I let the UWW+ dwell a few minutes. I use the Opti Mitt or a MF sponge or a very plush MF. After cleaning, I mist with DoDo Time to Dry. Then I Blot dry with a Mothers Foam Core MF. You can hold it on a vertical panel and it will keep its shape so you can pat or blot dry with your other hand. I use one bucket with a Dirt Dobber i.e, washboard & grit guard in one. Contaminants drop like rocks in ONR so I stopped using two buckets. If the vehicle is real dirty, I will hose it off first or go thru the touchless first. Of course I work top to bottom and save wheels for last. I use black mf for wheels & tires.

dont think so..I know 2 other members on here with 11's that say same thing paint is SUPER soft on their black stang

just did an ONR wash with my Griots speedshine towels

using them folded normally allowed me to do 8 passes before rinsing

since they aren't good for anything else, I think I'll keep using them for ONR

this is the second ONR wash I did this weekend. Made the mistake of using DG AW after the first one.

Going forward I'm going to stick with polymer sealant sprays as opposed to carnauba to top my KSG for the winter. After a day of errands the car was filthy! Hopefully the diluted KSG I used to wipedown after this last wash won't be such a dirt magnet.

What was wrong with DG AW?

I figure the wax doesn't shed dirt as well as a sealant. I was used to how well the KSG was keeping the dirt away.

Of course there is alot more crap on the roads nowadays.

I followed your method this weekend using .5 oz in a 32 oz spray bottle to presoak. Not sure if it actually did anything, but it helped ease my mind with using the ONR. I’m still somewhat nervous about using ONR, but I can’t deny the results. I did like having the ONR in a spray bottle on hand to do the wheel wells.

I have the LC sponge but I’m kinda nervous to use it. Its kinda stiff and I feel the dirt won’t “move” to the manufactured cracks in the sponge. I may give it a shot since I’m going to strip my lsp and put the sample of Blackfire Wet Diamond on. If I scratch or mar the paint, I can easily fix it.

you too Alex

busy day today and family is coming over soon so have to get going...

hope it was a good weekend for everyone!

Tim…I ran all around the world trying to get Christmas presents. It was nuts out there, but I had to get it done.

That’s ingenious!!! A washboard would be great when using my chenille MF mitts. The dedicated wheel chenille mf mitts were completely dirty. I had to spray some OPC on em to try to clean them up but it only got out about 60% of the grime. I’m gonna go out and get me a washboard ASAP! I may also pick up the ProPortioner as well. Thanks for the input Jim!!!

Everyone…great discussion!!! I did an ONR wash on my car and used my metro vac n blo after each panel. It was a hassle dealing with extension cords, as well as took a LONG time to complete the task. HOWEVER my mind is at ease with using the vac. I want to thank everyone for their input.

DG AW is a sealant not a wax.

ok busted. I thought it was a wax

no idea why so much dust accumulated on the car then. The trunk area looked like it hadn't been washed in weeks, not 1 day earlier...

I'm starting to think black is for garage queens, not daily drivers...

I noticed ALOT of dust being attracted to my car from this past polish/wax detail and the only thing I could think of I did different is I didn't put down a sealant before putting down the two coats of wax.
