So Who can tell me what happened here? Pictures ... its pretty bad.

Sorry this happened to you, but that certainly looks like permanent discoloration. My advice, invest in a quality interior detailer since it will save you this headache. My recommendation, get the one from Nextzett it's awesome. I use to use degreaser and APC for everything too, but after getting dedicated cleaners for pretty much every part of my car, ironically I find less use for the "all purpose" cleaners. They just simply do an inferior job, and the risk they damage parts is real.

are you talking about their all purpose cleaner, cockpit cleaner, or deep plastic cleaner?

Try to spray the liquid on the towel instead of the panel. Or on the brush in this case. Spraying directly on the panel I'm afraid is most of the problem, then the product you used was the improper one.

yes .. yes it was. and I do believe now it was diluted at 20:1 instead of 10:1 like I had originally posted. So spraying it on a towel first or the brush will make it less likely to do that? Thats interesting, I'm not sure how that works but I`ll have to try that out

So did you try applying some leather cleaner & conditioner?

You could also try Hyper Dressing at 2:1 dilution. [personally I'd do 1:1]

Btw, what kind of water do you dilute your products with? [tap, drinking, distilled, or]?

In the past I have done this a couple times (I think moreso on leather than I would like to admit) even with leather cleaners. If you spray it on the seat and even if you hurry it can do this. I am not sure what the name of this is but I have seen it too many times and I now always spray the towel/brush first. It has something to do with the product sitting there and it doesnt happen with the towel especially. I think even at 20:1 the SD is just too strong/not the correct cleaner for that door. Even if the door was really messy a quality APC like Meguiar's D101 at 10:1 should have been able to cut through it when applied to a brush first then scrubbed. Once it is scrubbed in you can leave it dwell for a few seconds then wipe. Hope this technique helps you in the future.

not yet. its a car that we got from my Grandma when she passed. My brother has it right now. I will go over to his place either tomorrow or saturday and I will try some leather conditioner like lexol, I do have hyper dressing as well I could try.

Ya thanks I will give that a shot. I have been mainly spraying it all over a section, but trying not to spray enough for it to drip down and then I spray more in the brush. I will try in the towel or the brush first.

I think what we see in the pics is the spray pattern. Same in my experience, I could see the pattern. Which is what led me to believe it was because I was spraying it on the section, even though I would wipe or scrub right away.

I will have to look into that McKees fast interior stuff. I was really wanting to stay with something that came in a gallon that was able to be diluted like the APC. But the safer way might be to go with that.

I haven't used the McKee's version, but what I've read about it they market it like the Griot's Interior Detailer that I have used - it's good for light cleaning and leaving a very mild "treated" look (to me, it just looks fresh like when it was new). For deeper cleaning/stains you could still need an interior cleaner or regular APC.

That being said, I'm a really big fan of the Interior Detailer. Cleans all the interior surfaces well, leaves a nice finish, and smells good. I haven't tested it's deep cleaning abilities yet since the insides of our cars are usually pretty clean.

Never would I think to Meg's Super Degreaser on the interior...doh! That's permanent damage. We all live and learn.

You used the wrong product. Degreaser is not for plastics/vinyl it is to remove grease. Plastics and vinyls contain some of the same substances as grease so the grease remover is trying to remove it. You should have used a product that is formulated to clean plastic interior parts. Even an APC may be too strong in some cases.

I didn't realize he had used Super Degreaser until just now... If it turned out looking that bad then it's kinda your fault for using the wrong product. Shouldn't have pinned any sort of blame on D101 APC as it surely wasn't to blame for the outcome.

Quick search of the world's leading auction site... it looks like a "new" front right door panel for a 97 Sunfire (also Cavalier) will set you back less than $100, with shipping. Time is money, amirite?

So can we get an update?

ya sorry .. I actually did it about a week ago. I used hyper dressing and leather conditioner. Surprisingly it disappeared. I would upload pictures here .. but it is such a pain to do on this site.
