Well, I recently solved an issue I was having with my clay.

It may just be me, and where I'm located...but I'm sure others have this issue. As a lot of you know, I'm from NH. It's getting cold here. I used to always keep my clay in a little plastic container...but in the summer time, it would get stuck to it like crazy.

So, this may sound crazy to some...but I've been leaving it in a plastic container filled with ONR, and it's been working awesome. It keeps the clay from melting to the plastic.

BUT, now my problem has been that the clay and liquid become cold, and when I go to use it...it's hard as a rock. I typically have just been working it for a while to soften it up. But this takes time out of my day, and drives me nuts.

I came up with a solution...here is my heated clay setup! lol....

I bought a mason jar off eBay. I know I could have bought one locally...but I didn't feel like running around trying to find the size I needed. I wanted a wide mouth pint jar so I could get my hand in and out with ease. Yes, I have little hands, ha.

I bought a Mr. Coffee cup warmer off eBay as well. This heats both the liquid, and the clay up in about 10-15 minutes. The clay is soft, and ready to roll in no time. Quite possibly my best idea yet! lol

Even the way the cap on the mason jar is separated works great cause it allows the pressure out of the glass. Only problem is...it works better than I thought. So I gotta remember to pull the jar off the warmer. It's gets pretty hot, but still better than really cold. Plus I can keep my coffee warm!

Just pull the clay out and run it under HOT water... makes it super pliable.. super fast

Yeah I know. But my problem is that the only hot water I get is from next door. I got plenty of cold water...but the hot water is an issue. This is just easier for me...plus I can keep it warm all day. I used to just work it while holding it over my wood stove, ha.

It's nice to be able to just pull the clay out and go.

Thats using your noodle. If it works for you then keep doing it!!! :props:

Lol your shop doesn't have hot water? no sink :(

My shop doesn't. The basement next door, like 15 feet from me does. That's where my bathroom is too. The shop is just literally a 3 bay garage. It's complicated, ha.

I am sure there is a country music song joke referencing "Mason Jars" in this post somewhere...

Ah the many uses of a mason jar.
Heat clay bars up in,drink beer out of..and the goes on lol

Good idea though.

I feel your pain on the water issue...the only way to get hot water in my buddy's pole building is by putting a pot on the woodstove lol

:iagree: problem solved!

I've never heard of this thing. It just looks like a block of rubber to me. Do these things really work as well as clay? I find it really hard to believe that something like that wouldn't be on the aggressive side...

Search for my video review.

Just saw your review, Gary. I'll definitely be picking one of these up.

I'm sure I'll like it. Marring really isn't a concern of mine...so I'm sure this will be very helpful. Plus, this will save me money on clay bars! Sweet, thanks guys. :dblthumb2:

You will be pleasantly surprised at how well they work and how little, if any, marring occurs. I use them nearly every time I need to clay.

Keep us posted on your results.

Will do! I'll put up a review. :dblthumb2:

Your idea will also work for keeping 845 runny for us northeasterners!

Just buy a Hi Tech Magna Sponge. Problem solved! :D

You will like this. It takes a bit to get used to since its a block but it works wonders! I would still cary some clay just in case you need to mold it to smaller areas.

Absolutely, ha. It has many uses. Unless you have a magna sponge apparently, ha.

I will surely keep clay around. I actually thought about how often I shape clay to fit in tight spaces. The sponge definitely concerns me there. I really have no reason to replace clay. I actually really like clay.

It's just the cold months that drive me nuts. Mainly because I heat my shop with a wood stove. So it gets cold in there when I'm not around. It will be good to have both clay and the sponge around.

I decided long ago that if I were ever somewhere that was too cold to use overspray clay............I'd move! LOL!

Just teasing... nice solution to your problem! When ready pull that jar off of there and put on a cup of top ramen noodles!!
