The headlights look new because they are...

Looks wet! Nice job. Truck really looks good. BlackIce is some good stuff!

You know Al, I think the gen 2 Dakota's are the best looking off the entire series. Your Dakota came out gorgeous and the paint looks brand new....:props:

Great work Al and beautiful photos!

Your truck looks great Bunky and your posts are always too notch.

That being said, I just don't like Black Ice. Glad it's working out well for you.

I have never seen a Dakota that good looking, great work! The side of the bed is so reflective and deep it almost blends in the background, love it!

First time I used Black Ice I was in disbelief , I've never seen a product that made the paint shine like it did.
The car we worked on looked like real glass:)

Was going to pull the trigger on BBI..what do you not like about it?

Lovely work, she's a belter :xyxthumbs:
I very nearly bought a pot of blackfire ice a while back, kinda wish I had now lol

Yes, the gen 2 are classics. It was repainted in 2007.

The paint job was so so especially on the top of the cab and the birds have not been kind to it on the hood in a few spots since it sit out 24x7. There are bird feeders near by. sigh. It showing its age on some of the trim.

I may get the hood repainted and some trim replaced sometime.

Was going to pull the trigger on BBI..what do you not like about it?

With all do respect to BI lovers, I can tell you what I don't like about it:

First, it's loaded with some kind of black dye or filler. It literally reminds me of black shoe polish. It just doesn't have a nice experience to me. Reminds me of something you would get at Autozone in a "Black Box". Smells like chemicals.

Second, it doesn't spread particularly far or buff off particularly easy for me.

Third, it didn't last longer than any other "finishing wax" for me.

Fourth, cleaning applicators used with BI is quite difficult and it turns your towel black - yuck.

Fifth, doesn't look nearly as good as Midnight Sun to me, or Collinite 915 for that matter.

Sixth, it beaded well initially - but the beading fell of pretty quickly for me.

Seventh, BI is pretty costly. It may be worth 1/3 of the price to me - but I can think of multiple other waxes that look better, cost about half the price, and are more durable based on my experience.

I think it is another case of YMMV.

It does have a chemical smell. Montan wax is a petroleum based product and not a natural product like carnauba and Montan is found in some shoe polish. I do not know about how much is dye. The applicator definitely stains but never seen any issue with buffing towels.

It spreads decent (not as good as Midnight Sun) and good ease of removal. I just let it sit 10 minutes per instructions.

As for durability, it was very durable and will be able to evaluate again. It was definitely longer than Midnight Sun. After about 4 months, I started using Pinnacle XMT Spray Wax to extend it as the shine dropped off some.

For looks, it makes black black closer to a sealant to me with nice gloss.

Wow! You sure made her shine! If I needed a wax for my black I would be hard pressed not to consider BlackFire BlackICE, especially after seeing this. Thanks for sharing!

The truck looks great, Al. Nice job.

I'm afraid my impressions of BlackICE aren't far removed from those of Swanicyouth. I greatly appreciate the generous sample you provided but I didn't love the product, especially price considered. Neither of the vehicles I've used it on were great subjects for photo essays but per your comments I found the look much more sealant-like relative to something like Victoria Concours Red. BlackICE is durable but I think less so than the Collinites. Compared to Vic's Red, Midnight Sun, Glasur, Angel Wax and several others I found it kind of unpleasant to use. Lots of people seem to love BlackICE so I guess I'm an outlier but at the price, even on sale, I wouldn't even consider buying it.

Sincerely, thanks again for the sample I don't want to sound like an ingrate.

I found it easy to spread and easier to buff off.
Did you spread it thin?, if not then yes I'm sure it would be more difficult to remove but that goes with any type of wax.
