Something I've been considering...

I've only used Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. Both have worked well in removing minor to medium wash and dry scratches.

But will the UC be too much for nearly perfect paint?

Isn't the M105/M205 combo more abrasive than the UC/UP combo?

I see no need for anything more than UP at this stage. With perfect, or near perfect paint just a mild polish should keep you there.

As Aaron mentioned, there is a difference between working with DAT and SMAT products. Both work, and fine results can be optained from each. But... if you're used to using one with a certain pad combination, don't even THINK the other one works the same. I've no doubt that the end result with either can and will turn out fantastic but they both work totally different to get there.

Negative! The other way around!

Aaron, didn't you get that reversed? ;) Of course 105/205 is more agressive you silly boy you.

I bought my last silver car brand new and the paint was swirl free. It's now sold, but I never polished it. Very hard to tell the difference with silver paint. If your car is a silver daily driver, it's pointless to polish, IMO. If it was a weekend or show car, it might be worth it to get every last bit of gloss.

If your paint is near perfect and you insist on polishing it, UC is way too aggressive. People tend to dis UC because it's part of the "consumer" line, but it's actually a fantastic compound. The abrasive set is the same as M105, it just has more lubrication. Not quite as aggressive either.

^^^ +1 He knows what hes talking about

LMAO WOW, I did. What the heck was I thinking. I could of sworn I read that the right way until I went back just now and re-read it. Dehhhhhhhrrrr, blonde moment at its best. Sorry guys

You guys are convincing me more and more to polish, lol.

Now what if I used the UP with a cutting pad instead of a polishing pad? Is that unnecessary?

Completely unecessary. Stick with a dedicated polishing pad, UP is such a fine polish, all your going to do is remove light swirls from your paint, fine scratches & bring the paint to a high gloss finish.

Now take a step back, the car is new but more than likely it will need to be clayed. Wash the car, use a mild clay bar & polish, then seal with your favorite sealant/nuba.

I just clayed the paint this past Sunday and I'm planning on polishing next Wednesday through Saturday, whatever day works out best. I personally don't feel the need to clay the paint again. Should I?

Sorry you had already mentioned you clayed on your original post. Usually you want to polish right after you clay. Reason being is that depending on the type of clay vs the paint being clayed, micro marring can occur. Since you already clayed, your good to go, time to polish & seal. Cant wait to see your results man!

Hit it with a finishing pad and 085rd .... it can amp up the gloss and reflection. Reflection will be more noted on silver but worthwhile.
