Son1c 's Home Brew Carnauba Wax - ProtoWax -> Picture Heavy

I have owned about every wax and I would love to give this a try and give you some honest pics/feedback.
Sweet! Added you to the sample interest list
split off into two beings, so I can find time lol

In all seriousness though, probably won't get to it :(
I hear that, been terribly busy lately as well, I haven't had the chance to detail my own car in ~2 months!
hope all is well, and if you do get around to it, good luck!

Great job documenting all your work on this project. You have your heart in it that's for sure.

This is the first thread I've read about this kind of project. I'll always have an interest in your work.

Nice !
Thank's Larry, have to! Otherwise it's simply a wasted venture
I'm glad you enjoy it and I appreciate the positive feedback, rubbishboys and bouncers thread are famous for this type of thread of thread, they were both posted onto the detailingworld forum which is UK / Euro based

Update 6 !

My waxes are currently wet on wet off, they'll buff off clean but I cannot get them to haze? Not that this is the biggest issue as I'm not opposed to wet on / off waxes -> as long as it does not turn to concrete like some waxes!

Who's waxes are your refering to turning to concrete?

I think it is probably your solvent blend, supplimenting with a lighter distillate will induce the hazing. When you use the coconut oil/linseed oil as the solvent, it will not flash off readily and the product will remain very workable.

Great result SONIC ! Impressive .

Haha wasn't a reference to yours ;)
petes 53 if caked on and another wax from a popular manufacture came to mind

I appreciate the input and your advice is in line with a few others on the matter, since then I have been playing with 5 new solvents and ProtoWax 25 is starting to haze

Hey SON1C, I'd be interested in doing an experiment with your finalized batch, so I added myself to the list. I would love to put it through Southern Louisiana torture test. I still haven't found a lasting wax!

Update 7

Son1c Wax has hit facebook -> Watch out for a facebook give away and if Autogeek approved an Autogeek product give away down the road ;)
https://www.facebook.com/Son1cWax
Son1c Wax also has its own domain now
www.Son1cWax.com
(Currently just a forward)

Since my last update I have picked up ~5 or so new solvents
With new solvents come new findings and new issues

I have also been trying to add some new ingredients to the mix

Any thoughts on this coconut oil?

It's cheaper than my last kind but doesn't smell half as sweet, the texture is different as well

This turpentine smells awful as well

I have been playing around with container ideas as well..
I'm really like this 4 oz

ProtoWax 21

ProtoWax 19

"Cool it"

Testing..

ProtoWax 18

Spy Cam

ProtoWax 20

ProtoWax 22

ProtoWax 21 -- enjoying the texture!

ProtoWax 19 -- Not bad either!

ProtoWax 23 - High hopes for this one as this formula has been improved and altered ~5 times

ProtoWax 22 - cooled -> looking a bit hard

Not solid nuba block hard, but the texture needs refinement, brittle you could say on this formulation, but new solvents new problems!

ProtoWax 24

:D

ProtoWax 25 - High hopes for this one as well

What caused this (not 25)

To be continued..

Update 7.5

ProtoWax 23

ProtoWax 25 my first hazer, pretty quick too, (majority of other successful ProtoWax 's have been wet on wet off)

ProtoWax 26 -> Steamy ;)

ProtoWax 22

In the midst of all this I also whipped up a 15 oz of RTU Eco Touch Waterless Wash from my concentrate :D

To sum things up I'm very happy with how things are going, I'm definitely making progress and I have faith that I will be able to produce a quality product, I appreciate everyone's positive input and support! I need to do more testing with my more recent ProtoWax's hoping to have some time for this today but no promises as I need to detail my own car as he's 2 months over due!
Hopefully breaking out Rubbishboys Original Edition in spirit of my own wax production

I would love to try out one of your formulas. A "first edition" may be a major collector$ item some day. We get a lot of dry heat and dust in the central CA valley.

Count 'ol j.mo in for some Son1cWax!

Thanks for the update SON1C. #23 & #25 do look nice. Love those beads! Keep it up. You look like you're almost there.

@sonic

looks like a fun project... 3 things come to mind

1) What are you going to do with all your "old" waxes that are prior to your final recipe? Seems like you will have 25+ small tubs of wax

2) All the 30+ sample list that has already been made, are you going to pay to ship to each of these people?

3) What makes your wax a "high-end" carnauba wax? is there a specific expensive ingredient or what differentiates a normal wax from a high end wax...?

and lastly, how do you know when you "finished" and got the final recipe? and whether adding something new improves the recipe or takes away?

Good questions. I also wonder what happens to the other test samples. As for the 2nd question, as a potential recipient, if he chooses send me a small sample, I plan on paying my shipping costs. I wouldn't expect him to pay for shipping, especially if he's giving it to me.
