I have been doing strictly just rinseless wash on my car unless I plan on polishing or putting on a new/fresh layer of LSP. With the new trend of rinseless wash having wax, I have not been reaching for all my different spray wax anymore.

Although I have found rinseless wash +wax does not leave as slick of a surface as a spray wax does, it still is pretty slick. Are spray wax obsolete now that rinseless washes have wax in them already?

Thoughts and opinions?

Not all the rinseless products on the market actually contain wax. I am not pointing any fingers but I know that it is traditional that wash and wax products will contain nothing more than a persistent surfactant modifier, something that sticks on the surface and gives a change in behaviour. Contrary to what you might expect, certain surfactants can make surfaces bead!

In any case, rinseless products contains significant levels of surfactants. If it really does contain wax, the deposited film will have surfactant molecules embedded and these will then interact with water (over subsequent weeks) and act to dissolve the film. Spray waxes will suffer this much less.

More than that, a spray wax can be formulated much more specifically than a surfactant product + wax - it doesn't have the same restrictions to be compatible.

I will commit blasphemy here on AGO! Waxes have been obsolete to me since I tried my first coating. Waxes attract particulate, coatings don't!

Man... that makes me want to Opti-Coat my car's paint. Larry from AMMONYC still thinks coatings should be sealed and wax. Sounds like something I would do, lol. Is it necessary? I'd at least spray some D156 over a coating...

I think Carnauba waxes will become more and more irrelevant to most people as more people try Synthetic sealants and as technology gets better but there will always be a niche (autogeek) of people who will still use it.

I don't think spray waxes are obsolete at all. Great way to boost your existing lsp and gives the paint a little more pop along with some added slickness and durability.

I do think quick detailers are obsolete now though..

To me if you are going to touch your paint you might as well put something that will last on it so you don't have to touch it again for a while.

I get the idea that a spray wax/sealant lengthens anything that is already on the paint but doing that every week or so is risking more damage. To me it's not worth it.

I think Waxes are becoming more for garage queens or show cars and everyone is moving or has moved on to sealants or coatings.

Dare I say it? Jim's spot on once again....

Coatings have evolved tremendously over the past few years. Even sealants are approaching the "coating" class of product as many are clear and wipe on, wipe off. While I'm not 100% positive, I really don't think I've used a spray wax this summer....My BAD!!

I still love spray waxes, until I run out that is lol. After I run out it'll be UWW diluted and V7.

Love paste waxes though, fun to apply.

Good thing too. I think me chemical purchases are going to have to stop or a while. I have simply too much stuff now. Boarder line hoarding.

I really love sealants, and use almost only this one other peoples cars for the durability, but it does lack that extra shine and wet look like a caranuba. alternative is a hybrid?

I'm with Tiger.

How about this? The old guys have seen the future!

I can see myself only using a carnauba wax for a garage queen/show car nowadays. Ill take my Powerlock until i try the new DP coating on my silverado...

I don't believe that spray waxes are obsolete.
Or any waxes, as far as that goes.

In fact...
Some folks say this is the best Fükken Wax on the market today:

Absolutely not.
RW aficionados are a minute segment of car care enthusiasts.
The same can be said of those that use coatings.
If anything, spray waxes continue to gain market share. But of course this is only my opinion.

Yep, they are obsolete. With WOWA products, wax while rinsing products, and coatings, there is really no place for them among the professional crowd. I can put Opti-Seal on a car in the same amount of time it would take to spray wax it.

If spray waxes are obsolete, why are they multiplying in the marketplace like rabbits?

If you use the right spray wax with the right towel you can get better results than a paste wax IMO. Spray waxes are more versatile than WOWAs because some (most) can handle some light dust and fingerprints. Also, unlike WOWAs spray waxes just have more variety, personality, and uniqueness to them.

Honestly, I can't stop buying spray waxes.

All of which are highly compromised in one form or another. In practice, there are very few examples of these product types either whereas there are thousands of spray waxes on the broader market. As a manufacturer, we basically do not get enquiries about any of these products from our client base (i.e. the brands you would often recognise). There are a few out there but most car care brands are more interested in traditional products.

You also have to remember that some of those fab new products you have mentioned, are far from new. Some have done the rounds before and been forgotten. Some are used in industrial quantities elsewhere but were not considered by detailers until a detailing brand grabbed one and ramped up the price.

Spray wax is great for the lazy guy like me. I still think coatings are hype. I am waiting for some to give us a two year report on a coating. Not the manufacturer,
