Hey everyone, FNG here (first post) with a couple Pinnacle questions. I'm new here, but not new to forums and not new to detailing. I consider myself a pro (at least on my vehicles:xyxthumbs:) and have a pretty good routine and recipes that I've been very happy with, but it's been a mostly OTC life. Here lately though, I've been wanting to step outside my comfort zone and see what the rest of the world has to offer.

My questions are mainly about sealing/finishing/LSP, as I'm very happy with my current prep/polishing routine and products. So, here goes...(and yes, I've been searching for two days now and didn't really get an answer to these questions or overlooked them)

--SS II...after all the reading, I'm really wanting to try this. My dad is a huge XMT 180, and XMT shampoo fan. I think he'll be using a bunch more Pinnacle products due to his satisfaction. So, he got me searching around and I've concluded I want to try the SS II.

But what about the durability of the SS II compared to Souveran?? I found tons of info referring to Souverans durability (or lack there of), but found literally no mention of how SS II holds up?? Durability is not my most important factor as I enjoy slapping something on ever so often anyways, but I do want it to hold up. I've tried products that were literally gone after one wash (Mothers FX...but that's a whole nother story) and don't want that either.

--Didn't find much on the XMT 180...how does that fit into the lineup of products?

--Also thinking about doing two coats of Blackfire Wet Diamond as my sealant. Any thoughts/feedback about placing the SS II on top of this?

--Wipe on/wipe off...new term to me. So with the SS II, I don't do the whole car, let it dry, then remove? Does this imply there's a cure time or a wait time if you wanted to do a second coat? Can you apply to the whole car then remove if you were so inclined? Would this have a different impact on the product or finish?

Anyways...sorry for the long winded first post guys. Here's a couple pics of my work and other items to help introduce myself. THANK YOU for the info and hope I can help out around here too!

I'm going on 2 months strong and I drive my car daily.

So not to change gears too drastically (but it is my thread..LOL), does Fuzion offer even better durability than SSII?? Reports seem to indicate that. Don't ya hate the internet and AG for all these options?!?

Now that I have a bit more time, I'll answer your questions in more detail.

Souveran is most definitely a beauty wax for dark colors. Looks GREAT, but durability isn't great. SS II looks great for any metallic color, just not as deep and wet as Souveran on darker colors. You'll probably see a few weeks of protection with Souveran, while you'll see a couple months with SS II. You can't put a definite time frame on either because there's many factors, but generally speaking, SS II has polymers and is more durable than Souveran(no polymers). Fuzion has "german super polymers", so I would guess it's a bit more durable than SS II, but not a huge difference. With SS II, Souveran, and Fuzion, apply to one panel, then wipe off, that's how they're designed to work, and they're alll verrryyyy easy on and off!! Side note, none of these carnauba waxes are as durable as a 100% synthetic sealant.

I've never tried XMT 180, but it doesn't seem to be a popular choice around here. Not saying it's a bad product, just not talked about much.

You could do two coats of blackfire wet diamond sealant(letting each coat cure 12 hours before applying another coat), then top with SS II. FWIW, I'm not a fan of mixing/topping sealants and carnuabas, but many people do it. As far as applying two coats of carnauba, it's almost pointless as the solvents in the second coat would remove the majority of the first coat. So, with carnauba waxes, one good coat and be done with it.

Thanks for the time Mark! I've decided on the SSII. I completely understand there's no way to pin down durability. I've read a lot of your post and I think you're a SS II fan, no??? LOL

Is your lack of favortism for stacking sealants w/ carnuba based off anything in particular...i.e. appearance?? I would think SS II would not diminish a layer or two of WD in any way. I understand it may alter the appearance some, but would not effect the durability of the sealant...but that may end up a personal choice like most of this stuff anyways. I'd say one of those "try it and see if you like it" things, yea???

I am learning a lot as I step outside my OTC box anyways...I had always thought a sealer and/or a glaze was designed to be topped with something. Even BlackFire has a topper for the WD. Thanks for the help.

I actually brought up the XMT because my dad is currently using it and that's all he talks about. Too bad you can't find more to read about on it. He's loving that line-up, but he hasn't tried anything else Pinnacle.

Can you tell I like Sig Series II??

I don't think a layer of carnauba would diminish the sealant, it's just not a personal preference of mine to use different products on top of each other. I'd rather use 2 coats of the same sealant, or 1 coat carnauba. You're right about midnight sun carnauba being a topper for BFWD.

A *glaze* is designed to be topped with protection. Glazes are pure polishes just for looks. Sealants can be topped, or don't have to be. Like you said, it all comes down to personal preference! :dblthumb2:

XMT 360 is a very popular "all in one" polish, but outside of that, you don't hear much about other XMT products. It's not a bad line, just not talked about much. :dunno:
