Hey there guys & girls. :xyxthumbs:

So here we have a 2015 Pellenc grape harvester - brand new & about to be delivered to its new owner.

I do a few of these a year, maybe twenty/twenty five on average. This year alone I've done eight of these new ones. This one being number seven which was completed on Wednesday . . . your Tuesday for the guys in the States.

Took these photos just after finishing up & calling the client to let them know it was ready to collect. So far so good!

Around half an hour later - my stress level elevated immensely in two seconds flat . . .

. . . then this happened. All on its own, it decided to blow the window out of the door, some shards of glass reaching almost twenty feet!!!

I was gobsmacked, had no idea what/why this had happened & not a clue what I was going to say to the client who was coming to collect it within minutes! Stress levels maximized, with trembling hands I rang & tried my best to explain what had happened.

Turns out that this isn't an uncommon thing to have happen to these things.

Apparently if whoever fits the door hasn't fitted "just right" the tension is all up the wop & when they get a bit hot inside they can go POP just like that.

Pretty frightening when you think how easy it could have been to be in the way when it exploded.

So - stress levels calmed down & client aware & in no way blaming me for what happened, another harvester delivered to me for detailing today - all's well that ends well I guess?

Didn't need the mess to clean up, or the near heart attack when I saw what had happened but grateful no one was hurt. :xyxthumbs:

Wow crazy glad it didn't happen when you cleaning the window.
How long does it take to detail one of those and what is your process?

Interesting detail to say the least. Glad the owner was understanding and you weren't in it or right by it when it blew.

WOW that must have been quite the experience Aaryn - lucky nobody was hurt. I can imagine how you must have been stressing until such time as you were made aware of the 'common issue'.....

Like SSStang, I too am curious as to the process you use to detail these... could it perhaps include some of Dr G's products (given the 'Optimum' banner on the top of the cab)

I'm happy for you that it all worked out for you in the end.
I would have puked on myself. Lol

Now, that is what I'd call "a major pucker factor!"

Good to see that it all worked out well and no one was injured.

Same here, it wasn't a fun experience for sure but certainly pleased nobody was near it when it happened. An interesting detail for sure - like Mike says, if it has paint - it gets polished. :props:

Thanks buddy. :xyxthumbs:

I almost did exactly that! Not a good feeling at all.

Thank you Bill. :xyxthumbs:

All up it worked out but man, that sucked BIG time. A heap of glass to sweep up too but as we all know - no one injured is honestly all that matters.

Aaryn. :dblthumb2:

Wow that is crazy.

:xyxthumbs:

Very crazy indeed. Made me incredibly nervous whilst working on the next one the day after.

Wow! They know this is a common problem?? Spooky. BTW, beautiful work!! Nice to know your blood pressure went down a few numbers too!!

Thanks mate. :xyxthumbs:

Yeah, it is apparently a common fault. I wouldn't be as relaxed about it as they seemed. I'd be wanting the factory to sort this issue out real fast. Not a good look if you had just delivered one to the new owner & next thing ya know the window goes bang in their face?

Blood pressure drop was rather welcome. :props:

Weary working on them now after finding out they can do this.

Hey guys. :dblthumb2:

Yes Lawrence, it was a very scary experience. A host of emotions for a while - felt sick, wanted to cry, confusion, really lucky . . it wasn't great at all.

I have another coming in on Monday - I will take a few pictures of how they turn up etc & better document whats involved in detailing one of these beasts for you gentlemen. :dblthumb2:

Thank you both for looking.

Aaryn. :xyxthumbs:

Sorry to hear the glass blew out... on the bright side no on was hurt...

She sure looks great though! This Grape Harvester looks so much better than most of the cars on the road.

:dblthumb2:

Thank you Mike. :xyxthumbs:

Wasn't good at all. Really pleased no one was hurt. Though not my fault & nothing to pay - sure makes sense to have public liability insurance. :props:

Aaryn. :dblthumb2:

That would scar the crap out of me glad it turned out well for you. If your detailing you should always have insurance. Looks great very nice work.

Thanks Pureshine! :xyxthumbs:

That it did my friend! Yeah, insurance is mandatory in my opinion if you're working on somebody elses vehicles - especially something like these - @ $500 000 NZ, You don't want to break one of these.

Not quite a grape harvester, but had the same thing happen to a Plymouth
Neon about 15 years ago. Sitting alone in the lot and boom! Glass on the ground. Never quite found out why? Glad you didn't end up with a face full of glass.

Yeah - I'm pretty happy about that too mate. :xyxthumbs:

Not a good feeling, was the Plymouth yours or someone elses? Sux either way though.

Aaryn NZ. :xyxthumbs:

It was a customers car. Fortunately, the glass was cheap and a quick fix.
