Surf City Garage (rant)

I appreciate all the feedback.

it's a forum and we should be able to debate differences in opinions. The best way to progress in any trade is to exchange experiences. If not, what's the use?

YMMV i guess.

Not trying to say you are "wrong" just wondering what your technique is, what was on your glass and/or what kind of towel you are using because the glass cleaner is one product that I have never heard anyone complain about it's performance... ONLY concern I have ever read about it is the price.

I appreciate your questions above.

My technique?

Wash car if needed. Dry Car.

Spray glass cleaner in short controlled mists across cool glass panel, out of sun. Wipe with microfiber A folded into fourths. Buff with Microfiber B, folded into forths.

Repeat if necessary.

It's all good. this product will get more trial runs.. it's just that most products i've tried that have been recommended by forum members and sold by AG have not disappointed.

I was surprised. Maybe the position of the moon relative to mars was causing the polar caps to shift the properties of the glass cleaner that night... IDK

To each their own i guess.

I just was not impressed with the performance of any of those products on their first trial. .

That is what it is all about. The good news there are plenty of other products to try.

I did like the Glass Cleaner but not used any other products.

I use one towel with this stuff and no special glass cleaning method and I still get no streaks. Try using very little product before you up and give it away.

right. good tip. thanks much! (you learn everyday)

Ok, so just out of idle curiousity what happened to the company? Their products used to be available on AG ?

I've never really heard of SCG until about 2 weeks ago when I noticed Walmart started selling their products which they had a lot of. I just thought they were some company that sounded cool with no real reputation. I'll be taking a closer look next time I go to Walmart now.

I saw their products at Pep Boys yesterday. The Barrier Reef Spray Wax looked interesting but I'll stick to Aquawax and Wolfgang Spritz Sealant for now.

That's what Amazon wishlists are for, being very picky means you got give people a list when they're trying to buy you gifts.

Right, that works most of the time, until you encounter those who give gifts based on "oh he'd like this" vs looking @ a wishlist.

In my case, I mentioned @ walmart that a few people on this forum said good things about this brand. So it was given with good intentions.

AG started carrying them
They have some good products
Some people started using them
They Started being sold OTC
AG Stopped carrying the line

I don't know why the dislike about Surf City Products.
But I have tried them all from the cheap to the expensive.
For the Detailor, I love the Speed Demon since it has Carnuba and here in Florida
with all the pollen, this stuff is awsome and does not scratch and puts on a great shine.
As for the Surf City spray was Barrier Reef, it pops on my 97 Jag XK8 antracite black and
easy on and off. It is like looking in a mirror.
My 66 STINGRAY coupe is a light trophy blue and for a light color I still get the wet look.
I like their products so much I bought 2 cases of each since they seem to fly off the Walmart shelves.
Oh as for the leather product, bset stuff I could ask for.
I wax my cars once every other month and detail spray every other day.

Thank you to all who wrote to me about my 66 STINGRAY coupe and MY Jaguar XK8.
Special thanks to my Nam Vet brother also. Was you also an MP?
I have over a 2 year supply of Surf City Products and when I wrote to them, they thanked me and are sending me a free T Shirt so cool
I just used their leather product and wow what a difference.
I am a car nut and used the Carnauba Barrier Reef wax every 2 months and the Speed Demon spray every day do to the pollen here in Florida and no scratches. The Speed Demon makes my car pop as does the wax.
My wife has a Honda insight gun metal grey and that even pops.
To all my new Corvette friends have you seen the new Corvette?
Back end looks like a Camaro.
Great site and looking forward to see you all again.

I have fond memories of the 1966 Corvette. I had one back in 1974 or 1975 with both the convertible and removable hardtop. It had been in a slight accident and I fixed it. During the process, I stripped the body to the gel coat and repainted it.

My 66 was a basic Corvette, 327 4 bbl 4-speed. AM radio, no air and in fact air conditioning in cars back then were far and few between.

I have a C5 Z06 Corvette. I became quite comfortable with GM's design and build for the C6 and nearly traded up for a new Z06 two years ago. I did watch the unveiling of the the C7 and as quickly as my excitement built the bubble burst when I saw the rear fascia...My God, someone slapped a Camaro ass end on it!!

And the black has to go!! :poke:

If it had a gel coat...
This means that this 1966 Corvette had already been "re-skinned" at least once before.

Hope you got a good deal on it.

:)
