Tail of the Dragon & surrounding roads

Cool...Thanks for the pictures! :props:
(That's still one of my favorite road trips.)

As a footnote:
Someday you must come up to Ohio
and take a trip on the "Triple Nickel".

next time you're in town, drop me a PM. You can some and wash the road grime off the car and have a cold one! Sevierville isn't that far from me..20min maybe

and it's Dolly Parton's home town.. home of Dollywood and outlet malls. It's basically a boardwalk without the ocean.

Yep....555 is a blast. Lots of Motor Trend testing done on that road. A good friend of mine writes for them. Worth the drive up. I usually hit it with friends and various groups a couple times per year.

I've been to the Dragon twice. Once in 2012 and then again in 2015. Both were motorcycle trips. I've ridden all over the country and the riding around the Dragon is as good as it gets. I bet it was fun in that Vette too!

Ron, thanks for sharing those pics and thanks for reminding me our run isn't till Oct5th thru the 9th! Everytime I see pics from someone elses run I wanna go NOW!!!

It looks like your had the Dragon all to yourself as I didn't see a car in those stills, that's very cool and very, very rare! I bet the ZO6 would be awesome up on the Skyway, especially those long straights but you'd have to take it easy on the downhill ones, up hill would be much, much better.

Did you run Moonshiners run?

I don't know what roads I did after the Dragon. I was using android auto for nav and I had no signal. A couple of guys told me to follow to do the triangle. Then said, "if you can keep up".......... 3 hours later I was back at dragon.

So your sure you ran the Triangle Ron? Did you see signs for the town of Petros or Oliver Springs?

What were they driving to say "if you can keep up?"

If your up for another trip out to the Dragon Ron we'd love to show you around. We're all family guys that enjoy the road without driving it crazy. Our cars are as follows:

2015 Mustang GT & 2016 Mustang GT, both with Perf packs, 1986 Fiero GT with swapped 3.4L, 2013 Mustang with V6 and manual and my ride. We may have another 15 Mustang with Perf pack but don't know quite yet so as you can see plenty of room for you and a buddy to come along.

We stay at the Dragon Pitt Inn which is right at the intersection of 129 and 72, about 10 miles from the end of the Dragon, or beginning of it depending upon how you look at it. Its also about the same distance to 411 where "things" are at. Rates are $80.00 a night and Dennis runs a BBQ joint there as well, covered outside area to eat at, everything you need. We always have a fire going to BS about the days drive and life, great people there who always join us, really enjoy this part of it too.

Once again I would like to invite you guys out to our run but I'm not sure how many rooms are left but there's always somewhere to stay in the area or in Tellico Plains, which can take 2 hrs to get to or about 20 minutes, depending if you take the Dragon to the Skyway or 72 to 411 to 360 and on into town. We always have breakfast at the Town Square Restaraunt, family owned business that makes you feel right at home.

Who's in?
