I have used Tarminator on bugs before but never full blown tar splat like you had there. It looks like it was a success for you and it was a great testament to the product. The back of my ford Explorer had embedded grit on the glass and paint. Power washing and car soap would not remove it. I sprayed the entire rear panel with Tarminator and the brown crap melted away.

The tar degreaser I use in the winter months is a kind of kerosene based product. Not so strong as straight kerosene. But it's developed to being able to work on wet surfeces. And get a gel like function when it touch the paint. It's to get as long dwell time as possible before evaporate or dry on the paint. In lower temperature it can dwell for up to 15-20 minutes. The amount of tar and rubber from tires I think it is you had on this car. Would need 2-4 applications to desolve it.

Did you wipe it off or rinsed off with water after it had dwelled enough?

Not water-based, so not rinsing with water at all.


Tarminator: spray, dwell, wipe until removed.

Kerosene: spray, dwell, wipe and wipe some more. spray, wipe. spray, wipe until removed.

Then the chemical decon with CarPro.
Once done, washed with foamy D11 Hyperwash soap to remove any residue.

That amount of tar was unreal. What did the owner of the car do, pizz off an asphalt worker driving a sealer truck and dude opened a valve on the sprayer? Wow!
 
Where on this planet did he get all that on the car???? What did they drive through????

The story from the owner was that a local road was being resurfaced, and had just been freshly oiled for the top coat of asphalt, and (typical for our area) there was no signage or construction re-routing at all warning of the surface oil. He had to drive through it and big, wide track tires sprayed it all over the car. Funny thing (or not) was that the BRZ had rally-style RallyArmor mudflaps on the car that stick out further than normal, and it still doused the entire car. The flaps were a mess, and I told him that it would cost more for me to clean them than it would to buy new ones and re-install them.
 
Question on this, do you guys know if tarminator is safe for coatings? Or other tar removers are safe for coatings?

Just to update this thread, got a confirmation from Nick that tarmax is safe for coatings. This is also true for tarx.
