My last couple of posts were about my teen center doing a car wash each year. One of the workers knows I detail cars and asked if there would be anything else we should get. I was thinking a foam gun and a bucket with grit guards, but idk how to really use a foam gun and idk if they are worth the work and product

Any info would be helpful

Skip the foam gun. Isn't worth it. Just get some buckets, grit guards, soap and sponges. Maybe some towels as well.

For example they were using beach towels. Wrong using dirty water again wrong, and using improper wash methods. I was thinking the foam gun might be easier, but I guess Id rather use something like the buckets with the grit guards

I just had a mental picture of voluptuous college girls in bikinis pouring buckets of soapy water over their............

Oh wait, that was a movie I saw once.

Nevermind.

Just make sure that have products will do as little damage as possible to the vehicles. A quality soap, quality sponges and quality towels would be the way to go. Best you find some shade for them to work in too. So many times I see these kiddos working in a hot, sunny mall parking lot. Not a good idea, right?

we have the normal, meguiars car wash soap and buckets, I was thinking just buckets with grit guards and I was wondering about a foam gun

Just make sure the kids are pre-rinsing well before washing to ensure that they get all the hard debri and dirt off.
Grit guards should be a must and they are relatively cheap insurance to help not cause new swirls/scratches.

I would do a Rinseless wash. A gallon of Optimum goes a long way. And it is pretty safe and quick. Especially in the hot sun.

My point was should I order a foam gun, I want to know what you need(hoses product, Brass fittings ,etc). We have enough product and Im definately getting more buckets with grit guards

Im definately getting more buckets with grit guards

If the car wash is for a fundraiser, maybe ask if AG could help out with bulk purchasing or additional discount pricing for the GG's.

The teen center raises a large amount of money every year so we are good. I just wanted to know if the foam gun was a good idea as It is expensive for product every year if we are only using it one day

If funds allow it can't hurt but again a thorough pre-rinse is also/equally important.

We prerinse with water and then wash with different car wash soaps.

as long as they are not using bricks instead of sponges...it should be fine. people that wash their cars at those type of places dont give a crap about swirls anyway...

Grit guards a must. Microfiber towels or terry cloth towels needed. And wash mitts to prevent swirls.

:iagree:

You beat me to it

last car wash i stopped at to give a donation (no, they didn't touch my car), I noticed they were using Palmolive Dish Soap and large yellow sponges like a grout sponge. At least their hands were soft afterward, but the cars probably came out like garbage. Though the people that will get their cars washed that way probably don't care at all.

I am guilty of being one of those car washers for a fund raiser once. In highschool I was on the volleyball team. Coach wanted to do a car wash. Its been 5 years, so I dont exactly remember any details. But we did use dishsoap I remember. And we would have the car totally scrubbed down in about 1-2 minutes.

Bill don't spend the money on the foam gun.......just make sure you have plenty of buckets and wash media and towels.

Don't let your OCD get in the middle. Just explain proper wash procedure and turn them loose, have fun and enjoy the day!

just helping will make you feel great!
