Terrible experience with Quartz UK

Gloss coat is super easy. I can vouch for that first hand. But it comes with a higher price tag, too.

Stop where you are, let whatever CQUK is currently on the vehicle cure enough to remove, polish it off, and try again with the remaining CQUK, or another product altogether.

anyone know how long I should wait to polish this stuff off?

You can polish it off anytime, just use more than one pad and you will be fine, take a look at Kamikaze if you want easy and foolproof

Probably not a higher price tag, if you figure in that he now has to polish the garbage off, purchase new product and re-apply.

I have a bottle of ISM and Miyabi just waiting, I am hoping to use it this weekend!

I'm just surprised because though I've heard it's "finnicky," I've never really seemed to get that a vibe that it was a very big deal. I'll try again in the Fall, but I'm not very hopeful it will flash perfectly.

In other news, I got a sample bottle of liquid soveran spray wax with my last order and just used it tonight. Wow. I'm impressed. The stuff flashes like nothing even it the heat and humidity. Stupid easy to use and the smell is incredible.

Sounds like a combination of factors. Personally I wouldn't apply a coating to anything but spotless, just-corrected paint that has been completely stripped of any polishing oils by using the prep product recommended by the coating supplier -- in this case, Eraser. I'd also go over the car with the stripper at least a couple of times.

Using instant detailers and rinseless wash products between correction and coating is asking for trouble.

Also, as Avi and others have pointed out, UK was created specifically for application at cooler ambient temperatures. Some time around early April I switched to Classic and locked the rest of my UK in the
basement until the end of October.

This^^^

If the paint wasn't just as in "just" polished before the application of any coating you'll likely have some trace amounts of dirt that has absorbed into the matrix of the paint. Whether you see it or feel it you're applying a coating to a paint system that's not absolutely clean.

Try again right after a full polish of the car.

Of course this is just my theory.

It is the heat and humidity. You are using a product designed for the UK, thus the name, and for colder temps. It is designed to flash off fast, so in high heat, it's doing it very fast.
The slight halos or light tracers that you are seeing usually cure out in my experience as the carriers continue to flash off.

HUMP

Yep... I agree with the rest. Most important of them all is that the paint, unless it's JUST BEEN POLISHED I'd never put a coating on. Behind that, the whole premise of "UK" is that you can put it on when/where it's wet, cold, and damp. Working in the 80's~90's is just too far out of spec for that product.

As for the suede cloth, whatever you do, DO NOT get caught up in buying the silly little 4" cloths $1.29 each! Instead, buy the 16" cloths in a 10 pack for $19.99, which will make ONE HUNDRED SIXTY 4" cloths for only pennies each, (actually 12.4¢ each).

Using both sides isn't a problem at all. I'll use from 2~4 cloths doing a vehicle, and always use both sides.

As for easy to work products. That list isn't all that short, including Pinnacle, DP, Blackfire, Optimum, (regular) cQuartz, GTechnic all of which AG sells.

The key, no matter WHAT coating you use is to work CRITICALLY, even surgically clean. Buff with something like Menz 4000, or Megs 205, or even Megs UP and have it 'clean' the surface. Then use Eraser, or something similar (I've been using a D114 with up to 30% alcohol mix for over a year now).

As for how long you need to leave the current product on before buffing. You can buff to remove it immediately if that's what you want/need. ;)

I hear ya man, but like I said earlier, one of the panels I applied UK to I had JUST polished 10 minutes prior. It is just as much a mess as other parts. So maybe it is the heat and humidity. The product page doesn't say anything about not being able to apply it in hot and humid weather (out of the sun), nor does it say it's designed to be APPLIED in cold weather, but rather that it PERFORMS better in cold climates with snow, rain, salt, etc. THAT is my issue. It's misleading marketing IMO.

You mentioned "out of the sun". I'm guessing here, but you DID apply it out of the sun, right?:dunno:

I've never used 'UK', but have used both regular and 'finest', never had problems with it.

I actually never understood the 'need' to go with 'UK', and felt all along that if it was designed to be installed in a wet, cold, humid environment that it would flash fairly quickly, too quickly perhaps. Which may be exactly what happened to you.:dunno: I'd rather have a product that flashes in the temps we have here, protection should work just the same. (I hope) ;)

Haha, yeah, I did it out of the sun of course.

I live in a cooler climate and even so....I don't let UK sit. Its a WOWO process for me. Doing a coating is much easier when you have a partner or two. A few of us (AGO members) got together a while back and experienced this first hand.

BTW....Nice Avatar. :xyxthumbs:

Funny thing is i had the same experience with regular cquartz. I only bought it because i love dlux and got it discounted. I love the finish after dg enviroshield, but wanted the longevity of cquartz. Guess ill give gloss coat a try at some point.
