The NEW FLEX PE8 Kompakt Rotary Polisher in ACTION!

Re: The NEW Flex PE8 Precision Rotary Polisher in ACTION!

Thanks for the preview, Mike! :dblthumb2:

I'm always excited for new tools but I'm a little disappointed seeing that it doesn't have a traditional trigger to feather the speed, especially since it's designed to work in tight delicate areas. :awman:

I still have my PE14 though, which I love to death! :props:

Hi Chad,

The good news about Flex is they read this forum and listen to feedback and that leads to....

:D

Boooooooo

I hope this is NOT the big announcement from Flex for SEMA

An industry that is moving away from Rotary

The minimum RPM is also pretty high, given the trend towards lower speeds

Hmmmmmmmm

Sweet!

Mike and Chad here is the deal with the trigger. Flex needed to make a tool that had proper safety requirements for Europe, Canada, and the United States. This trigger is the style in witch it will be with no changes from what Bob has said. The machine needs to be able to turn off when dropped at the height of the waist and this is what Flex came up with and those three countries all decided on.

Bob has stated that the switch was the most difficult thing to accomplish and having all three agree on the same style.

The switch is easy to get used to once you use it for a bit.

Re: The NEW Flex PE8 Precision Rotary Polisher in ACTION!

Not sure what to think about this tool. I like Flex, they have some amazing quality products, but I guess I'm not really sure how I can see this tool being more useful than just popping in a smaller backing plate. The PE-14 is compact as it is, I'm wondering how much more manageable this super compact rotary really is and how much more benefit you would get vs. simply going to a backing plate change. I guess it will come down to price and what someone already has in their arsenal, and a larger assortment of tools to choose from is always nice to see, but I think not seeing a DA platformed tool is somewhat surprising to me given Flex already has a somewhat compact rotary that can utilize a smaller backing plate. Just my opinion of course.

Omg I must have one!!!

Mike, would you be kind enough to post a pic of the pe8 and pe14 next to each other on the workbench for size comparison?

This was my question, if you can get a 3" backing plate and extensions for a full size, why would you go with a smaller tool like this? Just my opinion.

HUMP

That doesn't really make sense to me and I don't feel it's a matter of getting used to. With a trigger, if you drop the tool it's going to shut off as soon as your finger comes off. From a safety stand point I can't possibly see how an on/off switch is even remotely safer. The only exception to that would be if you're using the lock with a trigger, which I don't see many people doing on intricate areas. With my PE14 I can feather the trigger down to a very slow speed and stop with a quick release of the trigger. Far more control over the tool and much safer in tight areas.

Just my $.02

And a VERY GOOD 2¢ it is Chad! :dblthumb2:

I'm with you dude.... variable speed, (unlockable) trigger will stop running at ankle height, waist height, ceiling height, ANY height... the SECOND you let go of the trigger.

As Mike said, the designers/engineers tend to watch the forums, which can lead to.....

Perhaps V2.0 will be more in tune with what the people are really wanting/expecting. :dunno:

Agree, I was hoping for a smaller force rotation D. A.

A response to Rupes 3" D. A. POLISHER.

Re: The NEW Flex PE8 Precision Rotary Polisher in ACTION!

Well that's interested but I will wait and see the final version. Right now, I don't know what to think of.

:iagree:

If I had a choice, I would take a "trigger" over "on/off switch" every time. If Flex is listening, please make it variable so it can be feathered just like it's brother the PE-14.:xyxthumbs:

Note for design engineer, waiting for the trigger.
Keep it simple, we are responsible adults.

My initial thought as well. I was hoping for a smaller 3" forced rotation tool. I guess I will have to watch this a little more. Still a cool tool.

Re: The NEW Flex PE8 Precision Rotary Polisher in ACTION!

May be is a place for this new rotary!! but with the new technology today from pads, polishes, and DAs I would expect flex introduces a new DA with a big throw - similar to Rupes. Again, this my 2¢.
