correct, in the zoomed in picture before, you can see where the clear film had lifted from the bolt hole, and in the after picture, because of the angle, its slightly more visible despite by attempt and carefully cleaning some of the grime out.
 
I stand corrected. The dirt inside the bolt hole is the same color as the wear mark. I thought it was a spot Todd missed due to time constraints at SEMA. I thought it was odd for a spot to be missed, though. Considering the announcement of a new tool by his employer, Rupes.

Nah brother, no need to even be corrected. I like your explanation much better than the idea that anybody from RUPES damaged such a fine piece of machinery. :dblthumb2:

We all make mistakes and a little missed dirt can certainly happen :buffing:

However, in this case it was just poorly measured clear film.
 
Todd, or Dylan, have either of you found a situation that the short neck version was a better fit for a situation compared to the long neck?
 
A few... one example being interior work. I used our demo tools to polish out the lens on an instrument cluster (interior) the long neck became too cumbersome around the steering column and the overhang of the dash, but the short was way easier to maneuver in there.

Certainly, I think the long will be far more popular than the short - but there are situations where the short has significant advantages.
 
Why not just offer both necks in the kit? That way the end user can fit whichever size suits him better and Rupes offers a "complete" system which will assist in long term sales as well.

While that sounds simple in principle its not practical. The 'driveshaft' (for lack of a better term) that passes thru the neck would need to be changed for long or short operation, and then you're getting into a reality of changing out parts directly connected to the motor. The chances for end users to damage the tool would be so high that its simply not feasible.
 
Does anyone have video of this thing in action at SEMA?? I have searched all over the interweb and can't find anything to check out to hold me over until this thing ships. There is nothing on youtube, twitter, etc.
 
I doubt there are any videos yet, as the tools have yet to be released. The photo spread on page 1 of this thread is all I know of. Then again, I haven't really searched. No sense in antagonizing myself since I can't buy them yet.

There was a lot of smart phone video action at our booth this year. I am a little surprised that those videos have migrated onto social media yet, but maybe everybody is keeping the operation a secret for themselves :)
 
As I was manually scrubbing some salt crusted carpets under the seat of a car last weekend I imagined how much easier the task would have been if I had a Rupes Nano with the brush attachment......hurry up and release please! :D
 
Both kits have popped up for preorder on a non AG site.

The standard is 570 and the long version is 590

Wow, that's the full kit price? Very tempting. My 2016 purchases were expected to be a new extractor and new long throw. Already have flex kompact and 21mm; now I need to rethink the priorities.

Still probably best to get the extractor and 15mm, but now there is a wrench in my plans. I really don't like when things don't go according to plan.

Woof. That's pretty expensive for the weekend warrior crowd that doesn't get the really big jobs too often.

Kit does come with a lot of great stuff though, and it would make a lot of tasks way easy. Price to pay for unrivaled technology I suppose.
