The Post a Picture of Your Ride as it Sits Thread

That would explain my ignorance in the previous post.
No worries, Chevy did a horrible job marketing both the G.T.O. and Chevy SS. The G.T.O. could've just stayed the Monaro IMO, same with the Commadore...the SS You know what I came up for the name of the "Chevy SS"...The Chevy "option package" because SS is exactly that, an option package which debuted in 1961. The G.T.O. name I get but SS, just licked the stamp and mailed it in

When GM shut Pontiac down, Holden still had a bunch of the front facias sitting on the shelf, so they offered them up as a Special Edition on our SS models, sedan, wagon, and Ute. Here's one available at the moment.

So they mailed in the "super sport" moniker to match the option package abbreviation? It seems to me later on the option packages were 3 digits, letters and numbers, like FE3, 9C1, WS6, etc.

I'm going to channel my inner Deyon and speak on the SS nameplate

Like I mentioned, it debuted in 1961 and was available on the full-sized Chevy (Impala) and even on a 4 door AND 6 cylinder, believe it or not.

There was never a Corvette SS because ZAD said "All Corvettes are SS's"

In a few years, you could a Nova and Chevelle as an SS, a little later the Camaro, even an RS/SS option was available. A couple notable non-full size SS's were the 1965 Z-16 Chevelle, the 66-67 Chevy II (Nova) w/the Corvette 327/350 option and my favorite muscle car of all-time...1970 Chevelle SS454 LS-6...MONSTER

The SS "name" carried through the 70's but became more of a "tape and pinstripe" option rather thana true performance option. The SS name last appeared on the Nova for 1976🫣

The 80's saw the name plate re-appear for the Monte Carlo in 1983 but it really wasn't "all that" with a 305 4 barrel, 3 spd auto for 83-84 (4 speed auto from 1985-87(88)). The car easily could've had a 350 or even fuel injected TPI from the Corvette, why it didnt...God only knows.

The 90's and beyond had the awesome Impala SS (de-tuned LT-1 Corvette engine-they were learning) and a 303 hp 5.3L LS in the last generation Monte Carlo SS (FWD)

Those AND yours actually!

The 4th gen I really liked and I'm sure it's pretty rare would be that orange on the SS, white stripes, white interior w/houndstooth inserts and SLP optioned center exit exhaust

I'm sure our Aussies know about these, obviously and seen them with the bow tie but I wanted to pass it along anyways, I mean it's 11 days before Christmas and you don't usually see these on the road during winter

That's hilarious!

I remember Holden got quite defensive when a media outlet asked if those special edition Commodore's with the Pontiac front end were a parts bin special, ie using up leftover stock due to the sudden death of Pontiac. It didn't go down well, Holden flat out refusing to admit it. But everyone knew what was going on. Was quite sad really as it lost Holden a very lucrative export contract.

I can't speak of the Monaro based GTO, but sales of the Chevy SS were deliberately supply limited and overpriced to avoid issues with CAFE or some sort of taxation deal. (Can't remember which, but I remember both Australian and US media were bemused by it, along with the "option package" naming, the anonymous styling and the premium price). And that would also explain the complete lack of marketing, they didn't want to drum up interest in a car that was soon to be dead and never replaced.

Again, a real shame as the car deserved better.............and I say that as a Ford man!

Those pics are EPIC Ric

Thank you. I’m going to try and find out how to submit them to the Vogue Tyre Instagram to see if I’m worthy of them displaying my car on their page.

Wow, great LA skyline shots, Eldo! What year is that car? And I don't know how I zoned this before when you were showing your hood, but is that Stealth Gray?

Darn, I'm away from a high speed connection so I can't view the pics but I sure bet the car is show worthy. Time to enter it in one

Finally got to see the pics. Wow, they ought to be in a brochure or home page of a website. Vogue definitely should consider them.

You should get that last one in a huge print and put it on canvas.

Middle pic dope too.
