Thinking about trading in the CR-Z for a Fiat 500 Abarth, thoughts?

Those wheels are hideous LOL

I think they're "funky cool", a lot people on the forum want them for their Abarth, they come in different colors but one of them isn't red or black though. The "beauty ring" is actually an unpainted part of the polished wheel made to look like a beauty ring, LOL, clever.

So I've been looking at snow tires and some "cheap" wheels and its hard because my car has 4x98 bolt pattern. The use of "wabble bolts" seems to be a way to go but I really love the Continental DWS tire as I've had great success with them on my 2 previous cars as year round performers in all weather and the Dragon run. Sadly they don't make the size for my stock 17's and my other option is to buy some 16's and find a wheel I like. Like any other car guy out there I know a wheel can make or break you cars look, well, I found this one and it would MAKE my car IMO. I love this style, what do you guys think:

Here they are on a "comparable" car:

ENK477-1.jpg

The wheel is the Enkei Classic Compe, 16 x 7 w/ +38mm offset. I could run a Conti DWS size 205-45 and re-use the TPMS from my stock wheels too. To defer the cost of doing this I would sell my stock wheels but there's the problem I'm having, I love my stock wheels, seriously! The stock wheels are forged and I love the style without a doubt. I also like the classic look of the Panasport or mini lite too. The practical side of me says yeah, get this and sell the stock wheels but the other side of me says to buy some cheaper 16's, wrap them in snow tires, buy new TPMS and then get new tires for the 17's in the spring, $$$$$$$$$$$.

I have always bought new wheels because I wanted a unique look for the car and the fact that the stockers usually sucked, this time its different. I might just get some refurbished 500 sport wheels, get TPMS and snows, I want to be as safe as I can be out there and my wife agrees and wants me to do what I feel is best.

So many options and not as much time as I thought I had!

those rims don't look bad, but i would personally keep looking for something else...

Are those normally called mini lites? Or is that a brand?

I like your new option. If cost were no object I would buy the new ones and keep the old ones. That's a tough call

Personally I'd get some cheapy wheels.... They are for winter, right? And keep the stock rims.... Like you I usually ditch stock wheels and get great aftermarket ones, but lately I've gotten some rides with really nice stock rims!

Just get steelies for winter. They don't look great, but they are perfect for a winter set.

I like! They would be a sweet winter wheel for sure buddy:)

The Enkei's would be year round wheels because I'd have the Conti DWS' on them. I would love to have steelies but because of my 4 x 98 bolt pattern that's not an option, although the 15" steelies from the base 500 do work you need spacers, no thanks. Cheap wheels are relative, but I have some ideas. Since finding out about wobble bolts I have lots of options now, so we'll see how it goes, 4 x 100 is now an option, really opens things up!

I finally decided what I'm doing with my winter driving situation. I ordered a set of the new Blizzak WS80's yesterday from my buddy Brandon @ Discount Tire. Kinda funny they're being shipped out of the Bridgestone warehouse in Texas, snow tires in Texas, LOL!

I know Blizzaks are great snow tires but I always stayed away from what the herd bought, but this time because of the odd tire size I had to go with them. Pirelli makes em' but I'm done with that brand after the experience with my stockers, so that's that!

They might be here in time for a Saturday install, if not, I'll have to wait for the following Saturday. These tires will be mounted on the stock wheels and then broke down in the spring when I need to change out the snows for 3 season tires, not quite sure what those will ben have time to research those but I have 2 I'm leaning towards right now.

Well I got home a while ago and just finished eating some deep dish pizza and the car is down in the garage right now. I'm going to do a rinseless wash tomorrow, scrub the tires real good and probably do it again and then coat the tires with TW tire coating.

I'm selling my stock axle-back today, so that cut into the price of needing snow tires, plus I got a $50.00 rebate for using my Car Care One card, so in total, $200 to defer the cost, win for me:thumbup:

Had about an hour drive home, city and highway and the tires are pretty nice but there's NO going around corners fast, I tried this just to see and the sidewalls are soft but that's to be expected with snows. While on the freeway going 60 mph I quickly turned the wheel from left to right, back and fourth quickly and the car stayed straight while it floated around, LOL!

I know this, with the tread pattern these Blizzak WS80's have getting through the snow will be NO problem at all, infact I'm looking forward to it! Das much as one can!)

Pics will come by Monday for sure;)

Well get your @$$ out there Roger. ;^) We just came in and it's snowing. Have fun but drive safe.

After driving through last winter on Goodyear RSAs that were dang near bald I'm looking forward to driving the G8 on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. In the rain they're great, so here's hoping.

So Mr. Paul, just to be clear, are you running the new Michelin AS3's or a different tire? I actually was going to just get the AS3's and call it a day and run them year round but instead of throwing money into more mods to make the car go faster I decided to get something to give me a fighting chance out there.

My wife and I were out in her car this afternoon and drove in the snow, no issues as she's got the replacement tires for the Conti DWS and they've got about 15K on them, maybe closer to 20K.

Looks like a deep freeze is coming this week, I'm just glad I've got the right shoes;)

After doing too much of this:

I had to go and get these on April 2nd:

So yeah, they're on the G8. I'm watching it snow right now but the G8 is clean and in the garage. I'll find out soon enough how they are in the snow and report back in case anyone is interested.

Speaking of mods my wife looked at my mod wish list last night: long tube headers, Corsa cat back exhaust, Livernois DOD cam/lifter swap & tune w/ Roto-Fab CAI system, tinted windows and front end respray. It's not in the budget now but I got the OK to start at the least expensive and work my way up as finances allow but I have to drive it into the ground.

On a side note the TW wheel stuff still looks new on the wife's Booboo van after a week of Chicago expressway driving. The wipe on stuff from Eco-Touch on the G8...not so much. Next warm day I'll do the G8 with the TW wheel stuff.

I know a guy who's on xceedspeed.com and he's got a G8 w/ full exhaust and it sounds like an old muscle car, seriously!!

What all do you have done to it right now BTW? Also, what make are your tires getting you through winter?

I just came back from dripping off my stock axle-back off and the roads were just wet, although the way it was coming down this morning I wasn't sure what to expect:what:

Upon arriving back home I looked down at my tires and told my wife I'm not used to gray tires, LOL! Once the Bears game is over and since my Lions aren't on @3 p.m. I'm going down to the garage and doing a GD rinseless, Bleache-White tire cleaning and ECO TOUCH wheel cleaning. I'm so glad to have a garage spot, something I didn't have in the past:thumbup:
